TIMARU MARKER’S. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited, report for the week ending March 20th as follows : Wheat—Piime Tuscan has been in brisk demand for export, and any parcels offering have met with ready sale at 3s 31 to 8s 6d per bushel. Other kinds are taken by millers and merchants at Ss 2d to 3s 3d for red chaff, and 3? 3d to 3s 6d for velvet, delivered in Timnru. Oats—Prices remain about the same as last week. The outside demand being limited, stocks are accumulating, and merchants are therefore not so anxious to operate. Present rates are in adranco of those repoited current in Dunedin. We quote for bright long feed Is lOd to Is lid, discobied Is 81 to Is lOd, «hort feed 2s to 2s Id, and short heavy milling 2s Id to 2s 3d, delivered in Titnaru. Barley is offering in considerable quantities, but transactions are few, buyers not caring to advance to owners’ prices. We quote fur prime malting 2s 9J to 3s. Feeding qualities are enquired for at up to 2s. PRODUCE MARKETS. From the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company’s (Limited) report on the Produce Markets of New Zealand', dated 25th March, 1886, we make the following extracts TIMARU. Wool—The season is practically closed; only a few bales and bags of stragglers’ wool are coming to hand. These we have disposed of at fair prices. Sheepskins—The market has been well supplied during the past month ; at auction and privately we have disposed of over §3OO. The demand has been fairly brisk, and prices and prices in consequence have ruled a shade higher. Tallow and Fat--Late quotations have scarcely been maintained. Rough fat has declined, and is now only worth |d per lb. Hides —The demand is fairly active ; quotations remain as in our last. Wheat—The harvest has now been all gathered in, and threshing is now in active operation, every available machine being at work. The quality of the grain is very good, in fact it is the best harvest we have bad for some years past. Several farmers who are now threshing have decided to store their grain, in anticipation of higher prices, while a number oi others have elected to allow their wheat to remain in stack for a few months. The deliveries coming forward for present sale are sufficient to keep our local mills going, and partly supply the speculative demand which has sprung up. Very little old wheat is now in store, and that is only of medium quality. Presort quotations are : Milling Red chuff, 2a lid to 3s 2d ; velvet and Tuscan, 3s 11 to 3s 4d. Fowl wheat, whole and good, 2a 6i to 2s 9d ; do broken, 2s 31 to 2s fid. Oats—The new crop is now coming to hand freely, and owners are inclined to store for higher values. The quality of the present season’s oats is very good, being bright and well filled. Present quotations are la 8d tb Is lid for Danish and Taittrs ; la 101 to 2s for light Canadians and Sparrow bills, whilst stout milling are worth 2s Id to 2s 3d. Barley —A considerable quantity is coming to hand for storage. Very few transactions have lately taken place. We shall be offering a large quantity by auction at our sale in April. Frozen Meat —Since our last 9000 carcases have been sent to Port Chalmers, and are now stored on the hulk Edwin Fox ready for the La ly Jocelyn, which is expected here shortly. The works have about completed a cargo of 10,000 carcases for the Mataura, which will load here early next month. Flour (Roller)—£9 to £9los per ton. Oatmeal—£l2 to £l2 10s per ton, l o.b. Bra a—£4 10s to £4 15s per ton, f.o.b. CHRISTCHURCH. Wheat—Prime milling, f.0.b., 3s 4d to 3s 5d ; medium to good, 3s Id to 3* 2d ; inferior and fowl feed, 2s 9d to Ss. Oats—Milling, 2s Id ; bright feed, 2s, f.o.b. Barley—Malting, 3a to 3a 6d. Grass Seed—Ryegrass, 5s to 3s 3d ; cocksfoot, 3|d to 4^d. DUNEDIN. Wheat—Prime milling, 3s fid to 3a 7d, f.0.b.; medium to good, 3a 4d to S* 5d ; inferior and fowl feed, 2a 61 to 3s Id. Oats—Milling, 2a Id to 2s 2d ; bright feed, 2a to 2a Id, f.o.b. Barley—Maliiug, 3s to 3s fid. Grass Seed—Ryegrass, 3a 3d to 4s fid; cocksfot, 4d to 4jd, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 26. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,700,000 quarters. » March 27. The wheat market is weaker. Quotations have declined a point. Australian samples are fid cheaper. For cargoes on passage 35s have been asked. The flour market is sluggish. At the wool sales all raeainos are quoted at a halfpenny, and scoured und clothing sorts at a penny, lower than last sales. Prices for lambs and coarse crossbreds are unchanged. Finer qualities ate weaker. The New Zealand Loan and Mercancantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated London, March 26th, 1886 : Wool—The sales progress fairly well. There is much irregularity in the bidding. Wools of a faulty character are neglected. Greasy merino, clothing and combing washed merino, fine greasy crossbred, and fine washed crossbred, have declined |d per lb since close of lasi sale?. Scoured a ,1 fine scoured crossbred have declined to Id per lb since c'oso of last sale?. Other descriptions are unchanged. The total quantity catalogued to date is 34,000 bales, and the total quantity withdrawn 5000. Tallow—Market has a downward tendency. Good mutton and good beef tallow ato worth, respectively, 23s and 21? per cwt. Alcoholic Fatuity. — Tim chronic debauchee feoi? that he h; positively cannot exist without hs alcoholic stimulation.
