TOWN BOARD FOR AROWHENUA.
A meeting of tlie Committee appointed to bring Arowbenua under the operation ef the Town Districts Act was held lact Saturday evening in Pellgrove Cottage, the residence of Mr Geo. Edgeler. Mr E. Lee occupied the chair, and there were present Messrs Q. Edgeler, Vallonder, Boulter, Fletcher, King, Fawdray and Frew. The minutes of the pterions meeting were read and confirmed, ihe following letter was read *• Wellington, 23rd March 1886. “ Hon. Mr Rolleston, “ Dsab Sir,— In the matter of the village settlement of Arowhenua, the Receiver of Land Revenue and the Commissioner of Crown Lands report that £IO2B 6s 3d has been received from the D.P. settlers, and as no thirds have ever been paid a sum of £342 15s fid has accumulated to the credit of the Temuka Road Board, which the Treasury here will be asked to pay to the Road Board as soon as the Land Board has approved of ‘ the plans of proposed roads ’ in terms of sec. 127 of The Land Act 1885. In order that there may be no further delay, Mr Baker has been instructed to ask the Temuka Road Board to forward a litho. plan showing the lines ef roads or streets on which the £342 15a fid is proposed to be expended, so that the Land Board may approve. It is well that you moved moved in this business, for apparently all parties, both private and official, who have to do with it, had allowed it to drop out of sight.—Very truly yours, “James M'Kuerow.” Mr Fawdray thought the case was misunderstood. It appeared the money was for the Road Board to get.
It was explained that of course no authority existed to get the money, but as soon as the Town Board was elected it would step into the Road Board’s place and get the money. On the motion ot Mr Valender seconded by Mr Edgeler it was resolved—" That this Committee urge upon Mr Rolleaton to take immediate steps to inform tin* proper authorities (hat it is the intention of the sett'er* in the Arowhenua Village Settlement, to bring the township under (he operation of the Town Districts Act 1881 Amendment Act 1883, aod to request that the sum of £342 15s sd, now lying in the hands of the Receiver of Land Revenue to the credit of the Temuka Road Board, for the purpos t of forming roads in the said village settlement be held over till the said township is constituted a lown District.” On (he motion of Mr Fletcher, seconded by Air Fawdray it was resolved That the Chairman and Mr Frew wait upon the Hon. Mr Rol'eston and request him to take immediate steps in conformity with the above resolution,” Un the motion of Mr King, seconded by Mr Boulter, it was resolved —" That the Chairman and Mr Frew get the heading of the petition drawn up.” On the motion of Mr Frew, seconded by Mr Fawdray it was resolved—" That Messrs Lee, Vallpnder Fletcher, and Edgelerbe appointed a sub-Cummittee to obtain signatures to the petition.” A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
