A forcible illustration of the weight of the atmosphere was recently given by a lecturer in London, who said that the air, which scarcely appears to be matter at all, is so enormous in mass that it really presses with nearly a ton to each square foot, so that the weight of all the buildings in the world’s metropolis, for instance, is less thaa that of the air above them.

Mobal Tubpitcdh.—Blame attaches to a jury of intelligent men when they condemn a man for a crime whose moral nature has been perverted by indigestion, diseased liver and kidneys, A thoughtful judge may well consider whether society would not be better served by ordering a bottle of American Go’s Hop Bitters for the unfortunate in the dock instead of years of penal servitude. As a matter of fact the Yankees are tbe people who inhabit the New England States, and the title is considered a term of reproach, not to say insult, by all others.—Globe. Holiowat’B Pills.— Invalids distracted by indigestion and discouraged in their search for its remedy should make trial of this never failing medicine. A lady, long a martyr to dyspeptic tortures, writes that Holloway’s Pill made her feel as if a burden hud been taken off her. Her spirits, formerly low, have greatly improved i her capricious appetite has given place to healthy hunger, her dull, sick headache has departed, and gradually so marvellous a change has been effected that she is altogether a new creature, and again fit for her duties.
