AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU,

Messrs Jenas and Bourn report for the week ended Saturday as follows :

A fair amount of business baa been done privately during the week, but the demand for all classes of stock is still vary small, and no improvement in prices can be noted.

Annual Rum Fair This event took place at the Wasbdyke Yards, yesterday, the 19th inst. There was a very large attendance of breeders and others interested. A large number of rams were penned, but the business done was far less than expected. Low prices were the order of the day, and satisfactory bidnings were hard to get. It was felt, and expressed by many present that this fair was held at least a fortnight too soon. We penned for numerous owners 154 of various breeds, and wo succeeded in selling a few at auction, and the majority of the lot were placed privately, prices ranging from one guinea to three guineas. Sheepskins—We held our regular sale on Wednesday last, the 17th inst. The sale was well attended, and the prices obtained ranged for pelts from 9d to Is 9d, lambskins Is to Is 6d, a few heavy skins brought 2s 6d each. Horses—We are pleased to have to report a slight improvement in the horse market. The entry at our bazaar to-day was larger than usual. There is a demand for draught sorts, and all ef this class to-day found purchasers at slightly over sellers’ reserves. With few exceptions we succeeded in selling all entered as per quotations. We also sold a spring cart for £l9, and a horse works for £9. We quote heavy and staunch draughts at from £lB to £24, medium do £ll to £l6, hacks and light harness horses according to stamp and quality.
