The Right Hon. Jasaph Chamberlain, President of the Local Government Board, and the Right Hon. G. 0. Trevelyan, Secretary for Scotland, have tendered their resignations. It it understood that Mr Trevelyan and Mr Chamberlain tendered their resignations in consequence of their objection to entrusting to an Irish Parlfa ment the control of the Land Purchase Fund. Mr Gladatona is endeavoring to induce both gentlemen to reconsider their decision.

Arrived—Valetta from Melbourne, left January 28th. . A deputation of persons interested in the importation of Australian wines had an interview with Sir Win. Vernon Harcourt to-day, when the subject of the duty npon colonial wines was entered upon. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, in reply to the deputation, said he was not at present prepsred to take action in the matter, bat promised to give the subject consideration.

The Times states that Mr Gladstone proposes to raise a loan of £220,000,000 for the purpose of buying up the interests of the Irish landlords.

It is stated that France will send fully one thousand convicts to New Caledonia this year, Messrs Roderick McKay and Georgs Pieydell have been appointed temporary liquidators to wind up the affairs of the Commercial Bank of South Australia. Greece is embodying two more classes of reserve troops. Mr Chamberlain and Mr Trevelyan, who hare given notice of their intention to resign office on account of the difference of opinion with regard to the Irish policy of the Government, will have an interview with Mr Gladstone. It is unlikely, however, that any agreement obviating the resignation will bo arrived at.
