AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,

TIUARU. Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for the week ended Saturday as follows ;

We cannot report any improvement in the stock market- There is literally no demand, and prices are still less than our last quotations. At country sales the yards have been crowded with sheep, and only when owners are prepared to take what may be considered ruinous prices can any business be done. The following are their transactions ;

Makikihi Saleyards.—The regular sale at these yards took place on Monday, the Bih inst. There was a large number of sheep yarded, but few changed hands. They sold 118 half-bred lambs at 3s 9d, 72 lumbs at 3s 3d, 146 merino ewes at la 6d ; 5 two-year-old steers and heifers at £2 ; a hack, saddle and bridle, at £7, and a quarter acre section in the Makikhi township for £B. Washdyke'Saleyards.—The usual fort* nightly sale was held on Thursday last, the list inst. There was quite an average entry of sheep, but only a small number of cattle. Buyers were not numerous, and a small business was the result. They sold 90 fat crossbred hoggets at 6s, 323 do do at 6s 9d, 344 crossbred lambs at 4s 2d, 375 crossbred ewes at 3s 6d ; 12 store pigs at 12s 9d, 15 do 13s, 15 do 5s 6d to 5s 9d ; 6 head fat cattle at £6 10a; at £3 10s to £6 2s 6d.

Horses,—There was an average number of hacks, light Harness, and weedy sorts entered at our Bazaar on Saturday. The sale was well attended, and the majority of the Ibis found purchasers. Draught horses of good stamp and young are enquired for, and a few would find buyers. We quote staunch heavy .draught from £lB to £24, medium do from £ll to £l6, hacks and light harness horses according to size, stamp, and quality. They sold 11 horses to day of this description from £4 10s to £7 15s.

TIMARU MARKETS,

The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Limited, report for the week ending March 12th as follows ;

Wheat—Values remain about the same as last week. . iAny parcels :of prime milling are takemby millers are taken by millers at 2s lid to 3s o|d for red chaff, 3s Id to 3s 3d for Tuscan, and 3s 2d to 3s 4d for velvet. Owners, however, show no anxiety,to sell at these rates, and as a consequence a large proportion of the new crop will go into store. Oats —Business in this cereal has been of a most active description, without, however, any marked increase in values. Wo quote for long feed Is lOd to Is lid, for snort feed Is lid to 2s, and for heavy milling 2s to 2s 2d; ex store, Timaru, The statistics lately published tend to confirm the opinion that the quantity available this season will not be more than sufficient for requirements. Barley is in plentiful supply. Prime mailing is worth 2s'9l to 3s, at which pi ices ma'tsters are able to supply themselves without difficulty, growers not being apxious./to incur the expense of storing. ‘ liiv.ter—Fresh, lid to Is ; kegged, 9J to lOd, kegs extra. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. • ' Hydney, March 12. There • is a slight improvement in New Zealand wheat upon last week’s quotation ; oats are lower ; maize shows an advanoe in value, New Zalaml wheat, 8s 91 per bushel; ditto oats, 2s 3d ; maize (56U>s), 3s 9L ENGLISH MARKETS. London, March 12. Leather—Australian best is worth per lb. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 8,170,000 quarters, March 13. The advance in wheat is still sustained. Thb-Horae supplies are ample, but foreign supplies are curtailed. Australian is worth 375, and best New Zealand 355, No forward shipments bare been sold.
