MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

Special Meeting,

A special meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board office, Mount Peel, on Friday the 12th inst. There were present all the members. Tbe minutes of the last ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman stated that at the request of a majority of the Beard he had called a special meeting to consider tbe question of increasing the number of the members of the Board from five to six members.

A petition was read from the ratepayers of tbe district stating that they considered it advisable that the Board should be composed of six members instead of five. As the petition was not signed by the required number, viz., two-thirds of the ratepayers, the Board decided they could take no further steps in tbe matter.

Tbe Board then resolved itself into an Ordinary Meeting,

when the following correspondence was read and considered :

From Mr R. B'ackadder, Dunedin, in reference to the sale of the Board’s stonecrusher.

The Overseer stated that he had supplied the required information. From the Clerk of the Qeraldine Cpunty Council, forwarding a copy of proposed by-laws regulating the weight of loads crossing the bridges in the County, Resolved—“ That the Board recommend that No. 4 of the by-laws be amended by adding to the clause the following words : —‘ In addition to the cost incurred in repairing the bridge ’; also that a board be fixed at each end of the bridges stating the regulations and penalties.” From the Treasurer, informing the Board that the sum of £133 19s 2d had been remitted to their credit with tbe Union Bank, Timaru, on account of subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance Act. Resolved—" That all rates not paid on or before Saturday the 20th March, be at puce sued for without further notice,” The Qverpeer was ip§trucfed to fill up ruts on the road in Peel Forest.

After passing accounts to the amount of £63 Bs, tbe Board adjourned.
