COMMERCIAL
AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,
TIMARU. Messrs James A. Grade and Co. report for the past fortnight as follows : Horses—On the 20th February there was a fair entry came forward of medium draughts, light harness horses and hacks, a few of which changed hands at prices noted below. Their entry to-day was a small one, and with one or two exceptions the quality was inferior. The demand for all classes for some weeks back has been so limited that there is little inducement for owners at a distance to send surplus stock in. There is, however, in the immediate future every probability of an increast-d demand for good useful farm horses. They quote medium to good draughts, £l4 to £lB ; medium to good hacks and light harness horses, from £8 to £l4; inferior, £3 to £6. Cattle -At Washdyde on Thursday fat cattle were conspicuous by their absence, th ere not being a single head in the yards. They sold privately during the fortnight 44 head bullocks at equal to 18s per 1001 b. There was only a small entry of store cattle, principally cows and yearliegs; the former they sold at from £2 to £5 2s 6d, and the latter from 15s to 255.
Sheep— They have no transactions of fat sheep to report. Store sheep ;At Washdyke on Thursday a few lots of old merino ewes changed hands at very low prices. They disposed of a line of halfbred lambs at 4s,
