MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this- B-vird was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 19th inst, There were present Messrs C. G. Tripp, R. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun and R. Thew. The Chairman not being present Mr Tripp was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the former meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The correspondence for the past mouth was considered :

From Mr W. Moody, forwarding two petitions from the residents and ratepayers in the Sherwood Downs and Clayton districts, one for the erection of a stock bridge over the south branch of the Opuha river on the Clayton toad, the other for the repair and extension of the stock bridge over the Clayton river.

Resolved -“That the consideration of the petitions be deferred till next meeting, and that some of (he members visit the site of the proposed bridge and report.” From the Wairarapa East County Council, forwarding proposals upon the subject of local government finance, acfl requesting the co-operation of the Board in giving effect thereto.

The Clerk was directed to reply, stating that the scheme proposed may be admirably adapted to the r-qiprempr-ts of some parts of the North Island, but is in no way suitable to Canterbury, therefore the Board decline to assist in the matter. From the Levels Road Board! requesting

the Board, to take steps to have a new toad laid off from the Opihi river-bed road along the boundary-line ot section 22226, to the Opihi river. Resolved—“ That as the road proposed would be solely for the benefit of the Levels district, this Board will take the necessary steps for laying oft’ the road, and having it reserved as a public road, upon condition that the Levels pay all expenses connected with the survey and transfer.” From the Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, stating that the fixed deposits had been renewed in accordance with the Board’s instructions. From the Hon. J. B. Acland, in reference to the culverts on the Peel Forest road. r" The Overseer was directed to attend to ' them. From Mr C. R. Shaw, forwarding plans of roads proposed to be altered under the Public Works Act, The Clerk was instructed to forward the plans to the Servey Office to be passed by the Chief Surveyor. From the Commissioner of Property Tax, forwarding the valuation list of the district for inspection. From the same, stating that a voucher had been forwarded to the Treasury for the payment of 75 per cent, of subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Mackay made application on behalf of Mr to bo allowed to place a gate at each end of the road passing through section 20224, which was granted subject to the usual conditions. Resolved—That notice bo given to all defaulters of rates that if the rates are not paid without delay legal proceedings will be taken.” The Overseer was instructed to attend to the gateway into the reserve at Sawerby’s corner, and repair the fence round the reserve near Mr Tripp’s, also to call for tenders for clearing out the sidling cutting in the Rangitata terrace. ACCOUNTS, Accounts to the amount of £26 2s 3d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
