ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET, Mr E. G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports on the Ashburton market of January 26th, as follows At the Ashburton yards to-day, about 1500 sheep and lambs, and fair entries of cattle and pigs were yarded. There was a small attendance, and the demand was quiet. Beef worth 17a per lOOlbe. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, Jan, 25. The following items of Mauritius commercial intelligence are gathered from Messrs Ireland, Fraser, and Co.’s monthly circular, under date Bth Jan., to hand per Salazie :—Harvest operations are in progress, but were hindered by the unfavorable weather which prevailed, The month’s engagements for New Zealand were—Dunedin, 300 tons; and clearances—soo tons for Christchurch, and 1100 tons for Dunedin. Freights—Australia, 14s to 15s ; New Zealand, 255, Exchange, 60 days ; Bank credits on Australia, Ll 9 10s; New Zealand, Ll 6. The stock of sugar held in Mauritius is 36,000 tons, and the season’s export to New Zealand 4000 tons, Melbourne, Jan. 26. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the produce market as follows Shipping wheat is active at 4# to 4s Id per bushel. Malting barley has rather more enquiry at reduced rates—Bs 6d to 3s 3d. Oats—New Zeeland feed sorts are in good demand at 2s 10.1 to 8s Id ; for milling descriptions prices are firmly maintained at 8s 2d to 3s 3d ; New Zealand under bond, 2s 3d to 2s 6d. ______ ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Jan, 25. At to-day’s wool sales 11,000 bales were catalogued, the tone of the market being weak. All descriptions of inferior and faulty wools were specially noticeable for their want of animation.
