AUCTIONEER’S REPORT. TIMAKU. Mr D. Maclean (for 'Messrs James A. Grade and Co,) reports for the past week as follows : Horses—On account of Messrs Ballautyne, Stratford, Evans, Blair, Cochrane, and others, they to-day bonked at their yards for sale 46 medium draughts, harness horses and hacks. They have to report that on account of the greater bulk offered being horses that were either somewhat out of condition, and also older than buyers like, a number were passed in, having failed to lind purchasers, and harvest requirements having now, in a measure, been met, the demand was rather easier. They placed nearly half of their entries at from £l4 to £l9 10s for fairly good draughts. Ordinary hacks brought from £4 to £B. Privately during the week they have placed a line, consisting of 5 young draughts, at a satisfactory figure. Sheep and Cattle. —They have had no auction sales of those during the week, and there is but little business being done privately. They have no alteration in prices to report, and if any difference has occurred it is that values are keeping lower. Fat stock are at much the same values as last week. Clearing sale—ln conjunction with Messrs Mundell and Co., Geraldine, they held a clearing sale last Tuesday, on account of Mr 1). Denoon. There was a good demand for most of the lots, which consisted principally of harness horses, buggies, and the usual plant in connection with livery stables. They sold 8 harness horses at from £3 10s to £l6 10s; 4 buggies brought £l7, £lB, and 2 at £2l each, and a lot of harness, saddles, rugs, etc., brought good values. Wool and Skins—They held their usual fortnightly sale last Wednesday, and placed the various Jots at the following prices ;—Merino and crossbred wool at Cjnl ; lialfbred skins, farmers’ lota, 2s lOd to 3s 8d ; lull-woolled crossbred do, 2s 9d to 3s 3 I ; merinos, Is 4d to 3s 4d ; pelts, 2d to 61, A small line of butchers’ halfbreds brought 4s Id. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Jan. 22, New Zealand wheat is quoted at 3s 8d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 7s ; maize, oßbs, 3s 9d ; pollard, per bushel, Is 4d ; potatoes, L2 15s per ton. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Jan, 21. At to-day’s wool sales 10,400 bales were catalogued. The market generally was quiet. Crossbred realised -|d more than last sales, and all descriptions of faulty and inferior wool to Id lower, 29,100 bales have been offered since the commencement of the present series, and 24,000 have been withdrawn. Jan. 23. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,660,000 quarters, or 50,000 quarters more than last week. Leather—Best Australian sides remains at llfd. At to-day’s wool sales 6500 halos were submitted. The market is flat, except crossbreds, good merinos, and sorts suitable for transhipment to America, which are firm. The wheat market is unchanged.
