AUCTIONEERS REPORTS. TJM4.RU,

Mr D, Maclean (for Messrs James A. Gracie and Co.) reports for the past week as follows: —

Horses —They bad again to-day a fairly good entry of horses for sale, consisting of about 25 heavy and medium draughts and the balance light harness horses and ordinary hacks. The demand was not so brisk as last Saturday, but they succeeded in placing about one-half the number entered, several of the lots being sold privately after the auction sale. They booked for sale on account of the following owners Messrs Crowley, Brown, Sharp, Hall, Shaw, Campbell, and others, 55 head, and sold at for geod draughts £l7 to £2llos, medium sorts £lO to £ls. Ordinary hacks brought from £4 to £lO, During the week, privately they have sold 22 draughts at the above quotations. Sheep and Cattle—At Makikihi last Monday they held their usual monthly sale, at which they placed a line of crossbred hoggets at 6s 4d, and goodjsteers at £5 10s. At their usual fortnightly sale, held at Washdyke last Thursday, they placed crossbred ewes at Qs 4d, and good lambs at 6s 9d ; steers and heifers at from M- 12s 6d to £5 ; a good dairy cow brought £7.. Pat stock -Present values for prime mutton and.beef sre about Ijd per lb and 15s to 17a 6d per 1001 b respectively.

E. JR. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited), reports: Skins —The past holidays have interfered with usual sales of sheepskins during the last three weeks. At auction and privately they have placed 2441 at prices which show a slight advance on late sales,"The offerings are now mostly made up with pelts and lambskins, with a few lots of butchers and country skins of all growths. Quotations as under— Butchers’ fullwoolled, 3s 9d to 4s 6d; pelts, 3d to 7d ; lambskins, Oi to Is; country lots from Is to 4s, Hides—The market remains steady at late quotations, viz. :-Beat quality, dry, well-trimmed, GQlb and over, 4|-d per lb ; 50 to 501 b, 4d ; light and inferior, 3d to 3l?d ; cut and slippy, 2d. At the above prices they have disposed of over 70. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS, Sheepskins.—Dry crossbreds from Is 7d to 3s id ; do merinos, Is to 2s 9d ; dry pelts, 2d ; green do,3£d to Qd ; lamb; skins, 61 to Is. Hides,—Heavy weights, 3|d to 4d ; medium, 3Jd to 3£d; light, 3d; cut, slippy, and bull, 2d to 2sd, Tallow. —Bough fat, 7s to 11a j inferior,

12s to 343 6d; medium, 15s to 17a 6d; prime, 18s to 19a per cwt, DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At tbe Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted in addition to that published in our last issue : Fat Lambs—93o penned. The demand was very slack, and prices were ruling low. Best sorts brought from 6s to 7a 9d ; others, 3s to 5a 6d,—Wright, Stephenson, and (Jo. sold for Mr T. D. Itobertson (Washdyke), 80 at 6s 3d. Fat Pigs—2o9 penned. The greater part were stores and suckers, and prices for these were very low. Porkers and bacon pigs wore also in less demand.—L. Maclean sold 29 porkers and baconers for Mr W. Wheelband (Temuka), from 19s to 26s.—Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 21 bacon p : gs at from 21s 6d to 36s ;38 porkers at from 14s to 20s ; and 127 stores at from 4s 0d to 12s.

Store Oattlle—D. Reid and Co. sold by auction at tbe Mosgiel yards on Tuesday, 12th, 100 bullocks at from £4 to £5 17s 6d, but owing to the state of the pasture bidding was quiet, and several lots were turned out unsold.

Horse Market—Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co. report as follows ;—For last Saturday’s sales an average supply came to hand, and for all fresh lots of draughts and strong light-harness horses there was good competition. We quote first-class draughts at from £24 to £3O ; medium, £ls to £2l; first-class hacks and lightharness horses, £lB to £25 ; medium, £lO to £l4 ; inferior, £5 to £7. THE WOOL SALES AT NAPIER. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company catalogued 900 bales of wool for their auction sale a Napier on Friday, and disposed of 840. The highest price realised for greasy crossbred was Bfd per Jb. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Jan. 13. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the produce market as follows : Wheat, shipping, 3s lid to 4s, steady ; barley, malting, 3s 3d to 3s 9d, quiet; oats, New Zealand feed, 2s lid to 3s Id ; ditto, milling, 3s id. There ie a better demand for all descriptions of oats. N.Z. under bond are at 2s 2d to 2s 4d. Jan. 14, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held its usual weekly sale this afternoon, when a catalogue comprising some 1750 bales was submitted for sale, -competition being animated. Greasy merinos realised up to 10£d ; scoured wools, 15d ; washed, 22|d. Adelaide, Jan. 15. Shipping wheat is firm at 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; town flour, L 9 10s to L 9 15s per lon ; country brands, L 9. Sydney, Jan. 15.

New Zealand wheat is at 8s 6d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 8d ; maize, 56lbs, 3s 9d. Prices are generally lower, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Jan. 15. Hides are in but limited demand, and peices rule at Is to Is 4d bolow last quotations. Jan. 16. Leather is quoted at 1 l|d per lb. Breadstuff's are unchanged. The total quantity of wheat afloat tor the United Kingdom is 1,610,000 quarters. Tallow has also improved. Australian beef tallow of fair average quality fetches 26s per cwt., while mutton brings 26s 6d. The wheat market is still depressed, and the foreign markets are gloomy. No sales are reported of either off-coast cargoes or those of the new crops. The stagnation is ascribed to the excessive yield of the recent harvest, which is admitted to be much above the average. The stocks of colonial flour are light.
