GERALDINE WATER SUPPLY.
TO THE EEITOR. Sie, —Owing to the late fire in Geraldine,. it is to be hoped the Geraldine Town Board will do something to supply the Town with water. No simpler or more inexpensive plan can be proposed, I think, than cutting a small drain from near Mr Angus Macdonald’s crossing of the Waihi river, and conveying a portion of the stream through the town—with a concrete head-work and a box as designed by Messrs Marchant and Meason, Civil Engineers, of Timaru. lam sure sure it can be very easily and cheaply done. Here and there throughout the town concrete tanks to hold several thousand gallons of water can be formed, and with a fire engine in the town I think the inhabitants will be able to sleep more soundly, I am certain that a constant stream through the town would keep the place healthier and be a great comfort to all.—l am, etc., C. G. Tripp, Orari Gorge, 14th January, 1886. P.S.—Of course I mean the water to be taken down the natural course through the Park.
