MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Road Board office, Peel Forei-t, on Friday, 18th inst. Present —'Die Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs R. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, C. G. Tripp and R. Thew. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence wan rsad and dealt with : From the Chief Surveyor, Chriatchurcb, returning the plana of roads in various parts of the distict proposed to bo closed under the provis-ona of the Public Works Acts, for the purpose of having several corrections made and additional information entered thereon.—The Clerk intimated that he had forwarded the plana to Mr Shaw to have the required corrections made. From the Geraldine County Council, requesting to be informed of the amount of the rate roll and the total rateable value of the district for the year ending 31»t Marcl), 1886; also forwarding a copy of a resolution passed by the Council at its last meeting, to the effect tint the Council recognises as a principle tin repayment of subsidies granted under the Local Bodies Financial Act to the Board upon whoso rates the subsidies have been paid to the Council. From fie same, requesting the payment of £53 14s sd, being the amount of the Board's contribution to the support of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Institution I
A letter was also read from the Councit explaining the advantage of the various Lioad B'ltirdu contributing the required amount iiift'ad of the Council having recourse to levying a general rate.
Resolved—" That the Bo»rd pay the amount to the County Council upon the assumption that the various local bodies in the County contribute their share, failing which the Council refund to the Hoard the nmotinl paid should general nfe be collected."
From Messrs Wilson and Sons, asking upon wlmt terms the Board would sell tlier stone crusher.—The Clerk informed the Board that Mr Wilson had been gupplied with tho condit'ons asked for. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Chrisichurch, requepting the payment of the usual fee for of title of a piece of knd on the Opihi, granted under the Forest Trees Planting Ac*.—The amount was directed to be paid. BATE. s,i A general rate of one farthing in pound was struck, and ordered to be colIpcted, the sum* to be payable on the latJanuury, 1885. INeTKUCTIONS TO OVERSEER. S The Overseer was directed to h>ive the-T bridle truck up tho Black Birch Creek repaired, and to h?ve the rut* on the Main Road attended to ; also to apply to the Government Printer for a copy of the Acts of 1885. ACCOtTNT3. Accounts to the amount of £l6B T» 6d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjauined.
