Entektainmsnt at Geraldine.—The annual entertainment in aid of the prize fund of the Geraldine Public School tak<-s place in the Oddfellows' Hull tomorrow evening, and we hope to see a bumper house. The Castlktownhochk Mukdrbs.—Our cablegrams inform us that WlilmmSheehan has been sentenced to death for the murder of his mother, sis'ei, and brother at Caslletownrc he, Ireland. It will bo recollected that Sheehan was arrested in Auckland some, iwo years after the murders were committed.

Pkhsonali —We are glad to notice that aftt-ran absence of some months, the Rev. Mr Maeimo-h has returned to t'emuka much improve! in health. The rev. gentleman has gone through a severe illness, and has not quite recovered yet, but he is making rapid progress, and we sincerely hope to see him as well as ever in a short time.

Sports PuivrLKGES.—On Saturday last Mr K. F. G-ay submitted to auction the privdt-ges in connection with the 1.0.0. F. Hoxing-Day Sport*. The prices realised for th(> privileges were not high, and purchaser* should do well out of them. The licensed booth was bought by Mr P. Coira, at £3; the nfreshment booth by Mr L. Tombs at £1 ; and the card* and games by Mr Coltman at £l. The gates were bought in at £3O.

Resident Magistrate's Connx, Great.,. DINK.—The ordinary foitnightly sitting of this Court was heli yesterday be f ore H. C. rf. Baddeley, 6"sq., R.M., and W. M. Moore, Esq., Rev. Geo Birclay and Dr Fi'h, J.P.'*. The only business disposed of was a civil case, R. ft lass v. Chas. Groves, olaim £5 6* 5d ; (judgment summons. Defendant was examined by the Bench as to his means since whs obtained agairst him in Afarch lutt. He stated that he hud been out of work nearly half bis time, ?nd hud a wife\ and child to keep. Cricket. A match was played in Timaru last Saturday between ti'e Timaru and Christ's College C.O.'b. The game resulted in a win for Timaru, tlio scores being : —Christ's College ; First innings, 67; second, 73; total, 140. Tiuiaru; First iniin«s, 131 ; Recond (tor two wicbt-), 28; Mil, 169. Several good scores were made. For Christ's College J. Hargreaven scored 30 in the first innings and 35 in the second ; only on« other player for Christohnroh got into double figures, G, Weston, who scored 12 and 10 in the first and e-cond innings respectively. For Timaru M. J. God by 21, G. Marshall 22, S. G. Rnymond 23, W. G. flees (not out) 23, and C. T. H Parry U, were tlio chief contributors to the score,

Accidental Deaths.—Two inque»t» were held at Aehburt.m hH Saturday. One was held on the body of Mr R. VV. Shearman, well known as t he proprietor of the Somerset. Hotel. It appears that in 1882 Mr Shearman let ihe Hotel, and went t« live puvatrly. On list Saturday morning Mr Shearman was as cheerful as ever, and went, after having had break'aat, to water his fbwers. Shortly afterwards h?s wife wanted him, and sent the gardener to look for him. The gardener found him in a well, from wliioh he had been in the habit of taking water, quite dead. When taken out, it was fou'id hi* neck was broken, and the conclusion arrived was that in the act of lifting the water with a bucket, he stooped down, overbalanced himself and fell, knocking his head against the ooposte wall of the well and thus breaking his neck. A verdict of accident il Jeath was recorded.—The other inq irqt was held on the body of a boy, aged 12 yean, named Curd, The boy met his father, who w»:g riding home, some distapce from the house, and took the father's pl'ce in the saddle. After reaching home the father went into the house, and left the boy eloping round the paddock. The ho se bolted, the boy fell off, hi* leg was caught in the s'irrup Jpather, and he was dragged about. His fathpr picked him up and sent for a doctor, but he died 80 minutes after havjng been found, A verdict of accidental death was rsturaed.
