THE LATEST AMERICAS INVENTION. THE VICTORY OP ELECTRIOIiY. SINCE EVctricity has been applied for ligl tng purposes, all ■. fforts of inventor* have be n directed to' contract a lamp for general domelic use. The leason 'hy this problem has till now not bem aolvcri, is that none i f the invontors could rid themselves of the idea of gas lighting, and that all adhered to the system of producing the Ehctiiciy in some central place, or Sv large machinery, instead of first laying down the principle that a Lan.p which should rve r become generally u-eful and popular must be portable, like an Oil Lamp, and enntain the generator of Elecricity in t-elf, i. 0., in the foot t f the Lamp. Ti e Norman Electric Light Co. have at last S’ ccee'hd in coinpht-ly icalising this ideal'of electric Lighting, and there is no doubt that hie most important invention will bring ■bout a complete revolution in all branches of Light ng. Our Electric Lamp needs neither Machinery, Conducto r s, nor any expensive outlay, -,nd is neither complicated, nor di agreeable in manipulatin’; ah that is necessary is to refill it every four or five days with acid. he cost of lighting wi.l be as cheap as gas (f cent- p r l.ou> - ), and it has before the latter immense ai vantage i f neither produeng heat, smoke or carbonic acid, „ owing t’> v h ch the a r is rot impln d, and remains at, the same degree of temperature, Tt is further, ohsolutely inodorous, and does not i p d to be kindled by match, or otherwise, but fin ply bv tur ing (he key, thus avoiding all danger of fir*-, cx.lo-Ln or suffocation, as in the case of gas, if the'key is Itfft lorn ; and it must be conceded that this advantage alcne is invaluable. It is further preferab-e to any known kind of lighting for the following reasons : (I) Its manipulation is so simple that apy child can keep it in order. (2) That the Lamp i» portable, and can bo removed like any Oil Lamp from one place to another. (3) That it neither requires fhe disagreeable fixing of the wick, or trie cleaning of the cylinder, as in the case of Oil Lamps. (4) That the light produced is a soft and most steady one ; lh*t it never flickers, and the fl-ime, though being equal in power of lighting to gas, can be regulated to any degree. (5) That every danger of fire i» absolutely excluded,' as the light will extinguish immediately if by any accident the glass surrounding the burner should be broken. (6) I hat it will burn, oven in (he strongest wind, completely unaff cted, thus bemg invaluable for illuminations, lighting of gardens, corri l< rs, etc. This Lamp is con-tructed for the present in three different sizes:— A, small size.
