A WARNING TO AROWHENUA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Circumstances cause me again to ask for a space in your valuable paper to say a few words, through it is to the people that reside in Arowhenua township. To these I would say “Rouse up, there are breakers ahead ; I see the red light looming in the distance—your right and privileges are in danger.- Men of Arowhenua stand shoulder to shoulder and protect your homes, and your children’s birthright. The thin end of the wedge is about to be applied to Arowheuoa in the shape of an Inspector of Nuisances. People of Arowhenua, I see tbe Road Board is about to combine with the Tetnuka Town Board, and to have one Inspector of Nuisances for both places. People of Arowhenua, we should or ought to be very thankful to those worthy members for their kindness in being so considerate of our health at all times, ft is not long ago these worthy members knew there was a drain being opened to take the filth away from Temuka, U say filth, for it was said that Yine Street was in a filthy state ; and, people of Arowhenua, it is made to run through the Domain or to lay there, for the gas or had smells to he wafted into this township when the wind is from the south. And now they are going to place us under tho same restrictions as (he Town Board. I spoke to the Chairman of the Road Board about keeping pigs. He said they would not come it to our gardens where one or two pigs were kept. I said, if we were under the same Inspector was it likely ho would allow us to keep pigs and not his own townspeople ? He said he thought lie would. Now, men of Arowhenua, 1 will ask ynu fairly if yon are to he under tho same Inspector and to trust to his generosity. My opinion is you will trust to a rotten stick, if I may judge ( by the Board’s Chairman’s humanity. Did he not send you into the water up to jour waist nearly, and to be in it all tbe day long, to see if you really would work? That is some such generosity as you will get from their Inspector, Men of Arowhenua, there is a stream of water running through your town where hundreds of human beings get water to drink—not one shillin'/ was spent on it. Men of Arowhenua, you are not thought so much of as fishes. Men of Arowhenua, if you do not make this town into a Town Board District, and be you own rulers, and that, at once, you will be too late, and before one and three eighths are off the calendar Bellgrove Dottaee will be in the Borough of Teinuka,” —I am, etc., G. Edoelbk, A.C.O.A. Temuka, Dec amber 7th, 1886. I
