ENTERTAINMENT AT TEMUKA.

An excellent entertainment, in aid of the funds of the local school, was held in the Volunteer Hall, Terauka, last evening. There was a fair attendance, and the entertainment was a success from every point of view. The Band opened the proceedings with an excellent overture entitled "LaPassirelle," anil subsequently played the "Memories of Scotland." Both are new pieces, and were played remarkably well. MrGurr s«ng" Shelling Green Peas," in a manner that elicited great applause. Mrs Bout sang aa delightfully as ever a splendid song entitled " I rise from Dreams of Thee," and was encored. Mr George Bolton's stump speech was the piece de resistance. It was full of local hits, and passed off splendidly. Mrs Hayhurat was in excellent voice, and gave a capital rendition of the song "Pierrot." Mr Rutland followed with the sons; "The Skipper and His Boy," and it is needless to say he did it justice. Mr Tworaey, as Sir Anthony Absolute, and Mr Gurr, aa Captain Absolute, enacted a scene from Shoridan's grout play "The Rivals;" and the first part was brought to « close by Miss Ludbrooke singing " The Brook/' in a manutu that woa for her An encore. _

Tlie second part consisted of the comedietta entitled " Lend nieFive {shillings," which was play.d a few weeks ago in aid of the funds &f the Beneyolent Society. As our remarka on the way it was then acted are still fresh in the mindß of our readers it is not necessary now + o enter into any detailed criticism of it. It is sufficient therefore to say that all those who took part in it shewed marked improvement, and acquitted themselves much better than on the last occasion. The stage was got up splendidly, and did infinite credit to the good taste of the stage manager, Mr E. W. Gnrr, who, as usual, was the life and soul of the entertainment. A dance was afterwards held, at which there wai a attendance. Dancing was kept up till a late hour, and everything passed off pleasantly. The prize fund of the school will doubtless be augmented by a good sum.
