NEW PROSPECTING REGULATIONS.
Amended regulations for aid to pros-1 pecting parties are gazetted. The principal points are that on any County | County Council, or where the Counties Act is not in force any Road Board, adopting the regulation* for prospecting < for diamonds, gold, silver, or tin, Government shall, subject to tho conditions, subsidise by pound for pound the amount expended by the County ('ouncil or the Roadßoard. The amounts payable by subsidy to any County Council in any one year shall not exceed £SOO, and to any Bond Board in any one year £2OO. Government shall subsidise by pound for pound the amounts expended by County Councils or Road Boards in Ihe purchase of boring appliances to be .ised for prospecting purposes. Amended regulations as to rewards for discovery of new gold fields are gazetted as follows : - Upon the Council of any County, or where the Counties Act is not in force upon any Koad Board, adopting the, following regulations Government shall subsidise by pound for pound the amounts paid by way of reward under the same, b'or the discovery of new goldfields three miloß from any workings there shall be paid at the expiration of six months from date of discovery a reward of £IOO per hundred miners, up to £SOO for five hundred or mora miners ho employed ; for the discovery of »lead in proximity to the place where a 1< ad has been lost and has not been worked for a period of six months a reward to the extent of one half of tho above rateß, and for the discovery of » new lead o»e mile from any Iqs* lead a reward equal to two- bir'a of the above rates ; in the event of any person discovering a payable gold field between the jurisdiction of any County Council or Road Board, Government shall reoognise the application and deal therewith in the sama manner as if it had been made by a County Council or Koad Board. For the discovery of a payable diamond field, lode of silver, or lode of tin, for every one hundred miners profitably employed thereon at the expiration of six months' from date of discovery there shall be p id a reward of £IOO up to £SOO for ovo hundred or more miners »o employed.
