AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,

TIMARU. Aiessie Jonas and Bourn report for the past week ending' Saturday n follows : The scarcity of feed limits transactions in livt stock, farmers haring some difficulty in carrying what they have al present, Business generally is quiet, being no doubt affected by tie depressing news from Home concerning the wool market, and the continued low {•rice for wheat. Sheepskins.—Owing to the serious fall in the values of wool in the Horae markets, buyers were extremely cautious in their operations, and biddings lacked spirit all through the sale, and a drop of from 61 to Is per skin on previous ruling rates occurred. .1 hey cauli gued nearly two thousand skins, mostly fnilwoolled crossbreds, aud there Was a good attendance of buyers. They sold crossbreds at from Is 6d to 4s; merinos, is 2d to 2s 9d ; jambs, 6d and dil ; bag wool, bides, 2d to 4£d ; horse hides, 4s to ss. Washdyke Bale.—There was a fair entry of slock for Thursday’s sale, and a good day’s business was done, few loti being turned out without a purchaser. They sold 140 fat crossbred wethers at 15s, 62 fat merino wethers at 10s Bd, 199 crossbred hoggets at 10s, and 807 at 9s 9d. In fat cattle, they sold 4 (at steers at £B, 4 fat heifers at £5 15s, 4 at £5 ) Os, and 1 fat cow at £5 2-6 d, 3 well grown steer? at £2 19s, 19 two-year-old steers and heifers at £1 19s, and 19 at £2 2s 6d, 14 yearlinga at from 15s to 255, milch cow £6 10s; and 10 {tigs al 6s. Strathmore. They submitted this grand Clydesdale sire today to a large gathering of farmers and breeders. An opening was made by a Dunedin breeder bidding two hundred guineas, and ten guinea bids came briskly till two hundred and sixty guineas were offered. After some time two hundred and seventy guineas followed, and then after a bit of hesitation a Northern gentleman bid two hundred and eighty guineas, All the auctioneer’s eloquence failed to elicit a better bid, and Mr Matthew* elected to bold the horse over till fchow time when no doubt a larger number of judges of Clydesdales wilt see this grand tiorse, and he will then be more likely to realise something like his value, and when he will be positively sold.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

ADELAIDE, Sept. 26. Wheat is worth cue penny more than at last week’s market, via., 4s Id to 4s 2d, Flour is unaltered. Tumi brand* quoted at L 8 5s to L 8 1 Os, and country brands L 7 12s 6d to L 7 17s Jd per ton. Sydney, Sept. 25, New Zealand wheat is at 2s JM per bushel, a decline of 3d. New Zealand oats are 2d less than last week,, viz., 2« 2d. Maize, per 56lbs, is worth 8s 2d, a decline of lOd, sugar Compauy’t No. 1 pieces, L 26 per ton. ENGLISH AiARjrEXS. London, Sept; 24. Wool at to-day’s sale was steady, but there was not an active demand, no material alteration in prices being noticeable. The catalogue""comprised 10,000 bales. Since the commencement of the series 34,000 bales bare been withdrawn from sale. Colonial breadstuffs—Adelaide wheat, ex store, 36s ; do, eff coast, Ss* 6d—an advance of 3d ; New Zealand wheat, ex store, 28s to 345. Sept. 27. The wheat market ia steady. Ex ship and warehouse have advanced 6d, Off-coast cargoes are eel ing at 85s 6d, and a cargo on passage has been sold at 355.
