COUNTY OF GERALDINE ANGLERS’ SOCIETY.

The annual meeting of the above was held last Thursday evening, in tlie Wallingford Hotel, Temuka, at which about twenty members were present. Mr Deßenzy (VicePresident) occupied tbo chair. The minutes of the previous meeting meeting were read and confirmed. Letters of apology were read from Messrs A. M. Clark, Perry, Inwood, Preston, and Hr Hayes. The following annual report was read : “ In presenting their annual report of the affairs of the Society for the year ending the 24th of September, 1885, your Committee beg to state that during the past year the total amount of receipt were £7 17s, and the expenditure £3 16s 2d, as per balance-sheet. The present liabilities are about £llss, against which there are the subscriptions of five members who are in arrears, total amount 255, which will leave a balance of assets over liabilities of 10a, and when added to the cash balance in bank, will make a total of £4 10s lOd. During this month stiles have been erected across the fences of Messrs ————, the cost of whicn are 15s, being the cost of material and cartage of same, which amount is included in the liabilities before mentioned. During the year 29 members have joined the Society, and your Committee have every reason to believe that the number will be considerably increased in the coming season. Your Committee respectfully call the attention of members to Rule 3, and would ask them to keep as correct a record as possible of their season’s takes, to enable us to compile statistics. The Society have to thank Messrs Findlay and Nicholas for their kindness in erecting the stiles; and they have also to thank the different gentlemen who allowed fishing on their properties. Your Committee would suggest that competitions be arranged for during the coming season, and that the Society give small prizes of useful fishing tackle, a small entrance fee to be charged to eompetitors.” On the motion of Mr Findlay, seconded by Mr Gray, the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following offioera were elected : Meiers A. M. Clark, President; W. Deßenzy and J, Archer, Vice-Presidents; 6. J. Mason, Secretary and Treasurer. Committee —Messrs J. A. Young, D, Inwood, K. F. Gray, J. Jindlay, W. G. Aipinall, N. 0. Nicholas, and Dr Hayes. A letter was read from Mr Inwood point' ing out that there was no rule authorising members of the Committee resident in Winchester to allow visiting anglers to fish, and suggesting that a resolution giving the necessary authority should be passed. On the motion of Mr Findlay, seconded by Mr Gray, the suggestion was adopted. Mr Gray moved, Mr Nicholas seconded, and it was carried—“ That the Secretary write to the owners of properties asking them to allow the Society permission to fish on their land.”—The motion was agreed to. On the motion of Mr Aepinsll, seconded by Mr Nicholas, a vote of thanks was passed to the owners of property who during last year had allowed members to fish on their land.

Me Aspinall proposed—“ That a fiih dinner be arranged for daring the first fortnight of this season, the date to bo fixed by the Committee.”—Mr Nicholas seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. Mr Findlay proposed, Mr Nicholas seconded, and it was carried—“ That Messrs Aspinall, Gray, and Young, be appointed a subcommittee to arrange for fishing competitions for the ensuing season, and that any sum they think fit be voted by the Society to defray cost of prizes.” Messrs J. T. M. Hayhurst, Weens, Pinckney, Gaze, and A, Young, were elected members of the Society. The meeting then terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman.
