Two lads—Teasdale and Harvey—were convicted at the Police Court, Auckland, yesterday of assaulting a Salvation Sergt-Major at a meeting in the barracks. The accused being ordered to leave for misconduct, they committed the assault. Teasdale was fined 10s and costs, Harvey 20s and costs, and both were ordered to find sureties to keep the peace for three months. Tii: work of judging at the Exhibition was commenced yesterday morning, five sets of judges being at work on their several departments. The result will not be made known for some time, as the Government will have to decide whether the exhibitions selected by the judges should receive gold or silver medals. A poll of the burgesses of Blenheim rejected by a large majority the proposal to raise a loan for £7300 for drainage and river protective works. Less than half the burgesses voted. Hunt and Woods are matched for £2OO and the championship of the colony. Three distances are to be run, on 17th October.
