COMMERCIAL.

AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for I lie past Week ending Saturday as follows : Their regular monthly sale at the Pleasant Point Saleyards on Monday was, as usual, attended by a large number of farmers and dealers, and as a matter of

course, passed off with the usual success. The entries comprised some capital lines of fat crossbreds. There was, indeed, a remarkably good lot of sheep all through the yards. As will be seen below, sales were made at full market value, each line eliciting some brisk competition. Two small lines of merino ewes in lamb were passed, as buyers were reluctant to travel with this class of stock. One small line of fat crossbred wethers also did not find a buyer, as the owners’ expectations were higher than buyers deemed current market rates warranted. With these small exceptions, every line found a purchaser. For young store cattle there was a good demand at improved rates. In fat stock there was not a large entry, but such as there was sold well. The entries in milch cows were poor, and there was a lack of calves and yearlings, for which there was some enquiry. They sold 93 fat crossbred wethers at 13s 6d, 161 at 14s, and 151 at 14s 6d, and 63 at 15s, 180 half-bred ewes at 12s 6d, 503 two-tooth quarter-backs at 11s, 180 merino ewes at 4s 6d, 40 hoggets at 6s 9d, and 25 lambs at 6s 3d ; 3 fat heifers at £5 ss, 2 at £4 10s, 34 forward steers at £4 ss, 20 two-year-old steers and heifers at £2 Is to £2 10s, 2 springers at £4 Is, 1 at £3 15s, 2 at £3 2s 6d, 1 at £3, and 2 at £2 15s, and 1 milch cow at £5 Is, 1 at £4 12s 6d, 1 at £3 Is, and 1 at £2 10s; 11 young store pigs at 6s, 6 at 10s, and 17 at 14s.

At the South Canterbury Saleyards, Washdyke, on Wednesday, there was a fair entry of young cattle, mostly forward stores. For sheep the competition was slacker, and lines were turned out rather than accept a reduction on late prices. The trade being well supplied with prime fat stock did not operate, and few sales in this class were effected. They sold 7 fat steers at £7 15s, 17 forward steers at £4 13s, 200 crossbred ewes in lamb at lls Id, and 11 young store pigs at 7s. Privately their sales have been 28 head of 2 and 3-year-old steers and heifers at £4 2s 6d, 16 head of fat bullocks at £6 6s, and 120 fat crossbred wethers at 14s. TIMARU PRODUCE MARKETS.
