AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for the past week ending Saturday as follows ; Both fat cattle and sheep are in good supply at present, and prices show a weakening on late rates. For store sheep there is a brisk demand, and all coming forward are placed at full current values. Young store cattle are not offering so freely as they were, and prices for good forward two and three-year-old steers have improved to some extent within the past month. Their last sale at the South Canterbury Saleynrds, Washdyke, was well attended, and every line of sheep on their books placed as under : —75 crossbred wethers at 11s, 30 at 12s 9d, 30 at 13s 3d, 22 at 16s ; 68 merino ewes at 6s sil; 378 crossbred hoggets at 10a 9d ; 4 fat steers at £6 12s 6d, 4 at £5 7s 6d, I at £5 2s 6d, 5 at £5 ; 21 steers and heifers at £4 9s ; 1 heifer at £4, and 5 at £2 10s. Privately they placed on the same day 24 head of fat steers at £6 ss, and 250 fat wethers at 13s 6d. ■ Sheepskins—Their regular sale on Wednesday last was ettended by all South Canterbury buyers. A heavy catalogue was presented, and every line cleared at prices as under :—Crossbreds, from Is 3d to 4s 8d ; merinos, Is 3d to 3s sd. Fat, Id to Ifd, Hides, 2d to 3£d. Property—They report having effected the sale of Mr W. C. Fendali’s farm at Claremont to Mr W, J. Cairns, at £ll per acre. ASHBURTON MARKETS. Mr Alfred Harrison reports on his Saturday’s sale a« follows .-—Saturday, Sept. 5 : Cows sold well, all entries being sold satisfactorily, and more, really good, enquired for. Pigs found a better market than usual, and some choice lines in small sizes sold at high rates. 53 were penned, every lot being sold as follows Weaners, 5a 9d to 10s and lls 9d, the last being very fine ; porkers, 16s 6d to 225. Fowls Is 6d to 3s per pair; ducks, 3s to 3s 6d ; haras and bacon, 2d to 4jd per lb; potatoes, blue Derwents, 6s 9d to 8s per bag bags extra, kidneys 253 6d to 7s 6d ; carrots, Is 9d ; oats, 6s; chick wheat, 5s 6d to 7s 9 I ; peas, 8s 9J to 13s 6d per bag ; rye gras*, 6s 6d to 10s per bag ; pig flour, 6s gd to 8s 3d per bag ; onions, l£d per lb.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,
Sydney, Sept. 4,
There was but a slight alteration in the quotations for produce at to-day’s market. New Zealand wheat remains at 2s 9d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 5d per bushel, lias advanced 2d since last report. Maize is Id dearer, 3s 7d per 561bs. There is no change in values in pollard and potatoes. Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces are steady at £26 per ten. Adelaide, Sept. 4.
Nothing is doing in the local grain market. Wheat is quoted at 3s lid to 4s per bushel, and Adelaide town flour at £8 5s to £8 10s per ton.
ENGLISH MARKETS
London, Sept, 5
The wheat market is dull. Quotations are, ex warehouse, 355. Seven off-coast cargoes have been sold at 33s 61. Forward shipments are weakening. Several of the Continental crops have exceeded the average yield. The wool market is inanimate. Crossbreds maintain July closing rates; merit os are from 7 to 10 per ceul, below the price realised at the July sales. The number of bales catalogued was 60,000, and the total number available 340.000.
