DUNEDIN HUNT CLUB RACES
The following are the acceptances and entries for the above races :— Welter Hurdles: Linwood, Trapper, Robin Hood, Modesty, Marquis, Medico, May Boy, and Kensington.— Handicap : Billy, Mntanaka, and Everton Lad.— Maiden Steeplechase : May Boy, Botbwell, Rorqual, Argylp, Myrtle, Hector, Straight Flush, Foreman, and Nimrod. —Shorts Handicap ; Billy, Matanaki, Sir Garnet, Grand Flaneur—Scraps filly, Fairy, Deschappelles, Everton Lad, Coupon, Lalla Rookh, Little Nelly, Riccarton, and Pauline. Tally-ho Steeplechase : King Arthur, Linwood, Medico, Little John, Moody, Berrington, Glenara, and Bothwell.— Hunt Cup: Victor, Medico, Little John, Hector, Straight Flush, Argylp, Rorqual, Chance, Glenara, Robin Hood, Bothwell, Foreman and Modesty.
ISLAND BAY RACE CLUB MEETING.
The Exhibition Race Meeting, which is the first held under the new organisation of the Island Bay Racing Club was held on Friday on the course at Island Bay. The day was fine but rather windy, and the attendance was about 2000. During the afternoon the Governor and party drove on to the course. The general arrangements of the meeting reflected little credit on the Stewards, and the duties of the starter were carried out in a wretched manner, and at times Mr C. Hill, the Starter, was hooted for the way in which he despatched the field. The following are the results ;
Hurdle Handicap, of 70 sots ; 2 miles. Mr H. Redwood’s Main boom, 1; MrF. Gentry’s Erebus, 2. Exhibition Handicap, of 100 so vs ; 1 mile. Mr H. Redwood’s Cloggs 1 ; Mr A. Young’s The Poet, 2.
Hack Hurdles. -Seagull, 1. Session Handicap, of 70 sovs ; } miles. Mr Murtagh’s The Bard, 1; Mr H. Redwood’s Cloggs, 2.
Tradesmen’s Scurry.—Doncaste-, 1. Cavalry Race.—A.G., 1. Consolation Handicap. Pasha, 1 ; Lifebuoy, 2.
