GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR,

Sir, —l would like, with your permission, to ask the Chairman or Overseer of the Geraldine Town Board a few questions. At a meeting of the Board in March last the following resolution was passed by the Board That neither the Overseer or the Works Committee be authorised to expend a larger sura than £5 on any contingent work between meetings.” Now, 1 would like to ask when was this rescinded ? If it is still in force, why were not tenders called for certain repairs to the main street which have been carried out with hired labor f Is it because the estimate of the cost of the said repairs is under £sl lam neither an Overseer or a contractor, but I should estimate that this work, as done by hired labor, has cost about twice that sum. Apologising for having taken so much space, I am, etc.,

Vera pro Gratus. Geraldine, Sept. 4tb, —,— TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have read a letter in your issue of this day respecting the letting of the town sections and reserve*. Now, Sir, there appears to be something shady about the way business is con ducted in respect to the letting of town reserves, etc. I would like to know it the minute book is open lor inspection of ratepayers? I would like to know a little more about this business. There are two members who avoid having leased any land in their name?. I imagine both are looking forward for a Chairmanship in this (?) honorable body corporate, I observe the two members on the Works Committee have taken great care to have a lamp placed very near their property, which ia undoubtedly the wrong place, as there i< ample light from the hotel lamps in that locality. It shows great unmitigated greed, and a selfishness beyond measure. It would be troubling you too much to write any more just now, but I mean to write on the subject again.—l am, etc,,

A Ratepayer. Geraldine, Sept. 3,1885.
