THE TIMARU GRAIN MARKET.
Mr W. Evans reports the grain market as slightly firmer, and he quotes good milling wheat, 3s ; second class, 2s 61 to 2s 9d ; whole fowl wheat, 2s 3d ; broken, 2s ; short oats, Is lOd to 2s ; long, Is 9d to Is lOd ; bran, 755; sharps, 80s; potatoes, 555; all f.o.b. Grain bags 6d each. Terms nett cash. These prices are equal to Dunedin quotations, where sacks are weighed in with the grain and 2£ per cent allowed for cash. TINWALD LIVE STOCK MARKET. At the Tinwald Yards on Tuesday last there was a fair entry of stock of all descriptions. The attendance was good, and business, although; tolerably brisk, could scarcely be considered so satisfactory in point of price as heretofore. Hoggets excited keen competition, selling up to 13a 2d. Crossbred ewes sold at up to 13s, merino ewes at Bs, Cattle sold readily at about Christchurch rates. Mr E. G. Staveley (for the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited) reports : —Fat crossbred wethers made 13s 6d, merino wethers 9s and 9s 9d ; aged merino ewes, in lamb, 7s 2d and 8s ; crossbred ewes, in lamb, 11a 6d, 13s, 13s sd, and 14s ; forward merino wethers, 7s 9d ; crossbred hoggets 10s, 11s 3d, 12s and 13s 2d, for good healthy well grown lota, and 6s 8d and 7a lid for inferior.— Cattle : There was a good supply and brisk enquiry for most sorts, young cattle being in especial demand. Fat cows and heifers made £6 17s 61 to £7 ; forward bullocks, £5 4s, £5 15s, and £7 ss; 18 months’ steers, £2 17s 6d and £3 ; do heifers, £2 8s ; 2-year-old steers, £S 6s, £3 lls, and £4 5s ; calves, £1 2s 6d.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,
Sydney, Aug. 28,
To-day’s produce market shows New Zealand wheat lias declined threepence per bushel ; maize has advanced fourpence per 561bs, and potatoes 10s per ton; New Zealand wheat, 2s 9d ; New Zealand oats, unaltered at 2s 3d ; maize, 3s 6d ; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, £26 per ton ; pollard, is per bushel ; potatoes, £4 5s per ton.

The wheat market is quiet at 3s lid to 4s. Flour, town brands, £8 5s to £8 10s; country brands, £7 10s to £7 15s.
ENGLISH MARKETS,
London, Aug. 28
The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,660,000 quarters, being a reduction of 140,000 quarters daring the week. Colonial breadstufls—Adelaide wheat, ex store, 35s 6d ; off coast, 34s ; New Zealand, ex store, 28s to 34s ; off coast, 31s 6d ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 25s 6d.
