AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week as follows : Horses.—There has been little doing in horses the last two Saturdays, and though they report better prices and an increased demand, the lots at present entered for sale are not sufficient for demand, and the quality is inferior. Good young draughts seem to be getting scarce, and values for these are fast improving. To-day they placed a few medium draughts at from £l6 10s to £2O. Sheep,—The demand for both store and fat sheep has improved during thelast fortnight, and a great improvement in prices has taken place. At Makikihi last Monday theysold a line of crossbred ewes in lamb at Us, They have sold fat crossbred ewes in lamb at from 15s to 15s 6d, and merino wethers at Us 6d. Cattle. —These are in better demand, and as spring advances will keep improving in .value. They have no large transactions to report, a few odd lots having been placed at their different auction sales. Skins, Hides, Tallow.—At their last fortnightly sale they catalogued about 900 skins, 30 hides, and a number of sacks and tins tallow, all of which found buyers at the following prices : Butchers’ crossbreds, up to 4s 5d ; do merinos, up to 3s 3d ; farmers’ half and crossbreds, 3s to 4s 2d ; do merinos, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; pelts, 3d to 9d ; hides, 3d to 4d per lb ; tallow, to 2jd per lb. Clearingy sale.—On account of Mr G. B. Hill, Pareora, they held a clearance sale of his farming stock and implements on the 12th inst,, and report having placed all the lots offered at good prices. 516 crossbred ewes at 12s 6d ; draught horses from £l3 to £lB ; cows, £4 5s to £6 12s 6d, and implements at full values. Property.—At their rooms they offered a freehold section near Waimate, also a section in Timaru, but neither of these were sold, prices offered not coming up to owners’ limit.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,
Sidney, Aug. 14. The market shows a general improvement. New Zealand wheat is worth 3s, an advance of 3d ; New Zealand oats are Id higher, 2s 2d ; maize has advanced Id to 3s Id per 561bs; barley is 3s 3d per bushel; bran, Is; pollard, Is; potatoes are worth 65s per ton. Adelaide, Aug. 15. Wheat is at 3s 10d to 4s, though business is reported to be holding off. Adelaide flour, town brands, £8 12s 6d -to £9 per ton ; country do, £7 15s to £B-
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, Aug. 12. Tallow— Australian of fair average quality ia worth—Beef 27a, and mutton, 29s 6d. Aug. 15. The wheat market is Inactive, Quotations are, ex warehouse, 36s ; off coast cargoes, 34s 3d ; cargoes afloat for London, 245, and for August shipments, 37s is offered.
