AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. GBKAIiDIUK. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the w<ek ending Saturday, Btli Aug, 1885 : Although little business has been done by them at auction, yet they are plrased lo have to roport an increasing demand for the following lines of stock—viz. : ewes for breeding purposes, und forward storo cattle, which, doubtless, will lend to higher prices than have lately been ruling for this class of stock. At the Gerahiine Saleyardson Wednesday the following entries were received by them for the Hay's sale, viz. :—62 head of cattle and 55 pigs. Prices realised were—for cows, springing and in full profit, from £3 10s to £5 10s ; 2-yeur-old steeia and heifers, £2 7s to £2 9s 6d. Pigs—For sows in pig, £2 ss; ainxll stores, 4s 6d to 12s 9d—every lot being sold at quotations. A very even lot of 3-year-old store stesrs were withdrawn at a bid of £5 each. Privately they sold a line of crossbred ewes, not in lamb, at 9s 9d. At Winchester Fair on Thursday the entry of stock was an average one. At auction, very little stock changed ownsrs. Of their entry they sold 3 cows (springing) at from £5 18s 6d to £6, 2 3-year-old steers at £3 2s 6d, 4 calves at 18s, 6 store pigs at 7s. They wish to draw attention of horse owners, buyers for export, and others, to a sale of horses to be held at their yards on Wednesday first, at which a large number will b« submitted to public competition. THE TIMAKU GRAIN MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report : During the past fortnight there has been an active demand for wheat and oats, and consequently priceß have hardened. Wheat.—They have placed for shipment and local consumption during the last fourteen days over 7000 sacks of wheat at the following prices :—Red Ohnff, 2a 7d to 28 B£d ; velvet, 3s to 3s l£d ; Tuscan, 2s lOd to 3s, ex store. Oats.—They have quitted several lines for Northeru ports at from Is 5d f ot discolored light Danish, to Is lOd for Canadians. Barley.—Almost nothing doing in this cereal. Enquiries are beginning to be made for seed purposes. The lowest prices they have accepted during the present season hare been as follows :- Ex store, terms cash, sacks extra Wheat Velvet, 3s; Tuscan, medium, 2a 9d ; red chaff, 2d 7d. Feed cats, badly discolored, Is 4d ; Canadians, light, Is 8d; heavy Is 10d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide, Aug. 7. Wheat, 3« lid to 4s; Adelaide town flour, £9 ; country flour, £B. Sydnet, Aug, 7. New Zealand wheat, 2s 9d ; New Zealand oats, 2s Id ; maize, 3s. Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces, £26. ENGLISH MARKETS. Lohdon, Aug. 7. Colonial breadstuffs—Adelaide wheat, ex store, 355; New Zealand do, 28s to 34s ; Adelaide wheat, off. coast, 34m 3d ; New Zealand do, 31s ,6d, Adelaide flour, ex store, 25s 6d. Tallow—Australian of fair average quality: Beef, 275, a decline of Is; mutton, 29s 6d, a decline of 6d,
