POISON LAYING.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In your issue of the Soth inst. appears the following advertisement : “ Poison Notice.—ln consequence of the serious damage done by stray dogs on my premises, poison will be laid from this date. George Prattley, Main street, Temuka. July 30th, 1885.” Shortly after this notice two valuable dogs died with all the symptoms of poisoning ; also a turkey and hen belonging to one of the neighbors. These are all the deaths I have heard of so far, though there may be others. Mr Pfattley now denies having laid any. Possibly he may have found out that the imputation of being a dog-poisoner is not a pleasant one; or, having dipped into the Police Offences Act, the perusal of Section 15 may have made him a little nervous, Mr Prattley lives on a small section next to Dr Hayes’, and it would be a very ingenious dog that could find much danvigo to do on it ; but, in any cas'*, before proceeding to extreme m sasuns it would surely have,
been more manly and straightforward ol Mr Prattley to have found out the owners of the digs doing the damage, aud to have made a claim on them. Hoping the police will thoroughly investigate the matter, and make an example of the miscreant, i am, etc., Strychnine.
