Sydney, July 29. A banquet, given by the citizens of Sydney in honor of the return of lh P New South Wales Contingent, took place last night, and proved a great, success. His Excellency Lord Augustus Loftus and Admiral Tryon were present, and the assemblage included most of the leading men of the colony, A number of speeches were made, congratulating the Contingent on its safe return, Melbourne, July 30. The Melbourne Cricket Club has agreed to accept the invitation to send a representative team to England next year. Adelaide, July 30. South Australia has adopted the measure providing for the payment of members on the Canadian system, which provides for the payment of so much per day, with a deduction in case of absence. Hobart, July 28, The Shaw Savili and Albion Company’s Tanui arrived here to-night from London, and sails for New Zealand at daylight to-morrow. July SO. The Colonial Treasurer, the Hon. W. H. Burgess, introduced his Financial Statement last night. He stated in the course of his speech that £30,000 bad been expended by the colony during the past year for defence purposes.
