GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of the Geraldine School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday craning. Present Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), A. Sherratt, Geo. Ward and R. S, Cook, MINUTES, The minutes of last meeting were rend and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with, as follows From the Board of Education, stating that they had decided to retain the services of Mr A. Erskine as fourth year pupil teacher for another year, providing he was willing to continue in his position at his present salary.—The Chairman stated Mr Erskine was willing to ; stay. From the same, forwarding two more copies of the Education Ordinance for the use of members of the Committee. From Mr D. Mcllraith, asking the Committee to grant him the use of the schoolroom for one night, for the purpose of holding a dance in.—As there was not a full meeting of the Committee, it was resolved to call a special meeting for Friday night, 7th August, to consider Mr Mcllraith’s letter, as an * objection was raised to the school being let for the purposes required, REPAIRS TO THE FENCES, ETC. Mr Sherratt, on behalf of the subcommittee appointed to carry out the repairs to the school fences, reported that the work had been done. The Chairman also stated that the desks had been re-varnished, and holes for ink pots bored in those in the infant room. VISITORS’ REPORT. Mr Ward, on behalf of the Visitors, reported that on the day they inspected the school they found it in satisfactory working order, and an attendance of 178. Looking round the school building, they found that repairs were needed to the spouting in two places, and the gutter between the two roofs wanted clearing out. borne shingle was also wanted in front of the school doors, as the ground was very wet and sloppy. It was resolved—“ That the Repairs Committee get the spouting repaired, and that six yards of gravel be spread where required. Messrs Lodge and Farrell were appointed Visitors for the ensuing month. HEAD MASTER’S REFOKT. This report was read as follows : I have the honor to report that the average attendance at school for the past four weeks has been 173 ; for the quarter ended June 30th, 180. I would respectfully request that the following articles be obtained for school use : One pair of large wooden compasses for teaching geometrical drawing from th* black hoard, one ream of foolscap paper for examination purposes ; also an axe handle to supply the place of one recently broken, The gravelled space in front of the infant room door is much worn down, consequently the water lodges there, and in wet weather the approach is a perfect puddle. A few loads of shingle would improve the place very mud'.—l am, etc., T. Hughe*. It was decided to obtain the required by Mr Hughes. SCHOOL PRIZE FUND, Mr Sherratt, as one of the subcommittee appointed to obtain the children’s prizes, requested that two auditors be appointed to audit the prize fund account. On the motion of Mr Ward, M ssrs Cook and Hardcastle were appointed. ALTERATION OF NIGHT OF MEETING. Mr Ward moved that the Committee meet on Tuesday, instead of Wednesday, evenings. As at, amendment, Mr Sherratt moved that the Committee meet on Friday evenings.
After a short discussion it was draped to postpone the question till the special meeting on Friday, 7th August. This being all the business, the meeting terminated.
