THE WEST COAST RAILWAY.

The following verses appeared in the Christchurch Star on Monday night—the night ot the monster meeting It’s NOW, orit’a NEVER I No doubt about that. More power to your elbow. Good luck to you Pat. The hour is upon us to rouse and to fight; “Our Right and our Railway’s” the motto to-night. The man who can speak—let him talk with all skill. The man who can shout —Jot him shout with a will. Or else, you believe me, they’ll find out too late, That the man who can whistle may whistle —and wait. This poor old milch cow of a Province is ours, She has yet a kick or two left, by the Pow’rs t And the Wellington milkmaid will set up a wail When that kick sends ’em flying—old woman and pail. Bill Rolleston, that bull-calf I Just think how he stuck To his mother, so long as she’d give him a suck. And Wakefield : he slanders us, now he's away And settled in Wellington. Long may he stay. Remember how Rolleston took infinite pains To stop the South Railway that opened our plains. Of course he’s for stopping our Railway to-day, There’s nothing the man wouldn’t stop—but his pay. Remember how Atkinson, cool and sedate, Advised us to labour—to Labour and Wait, He meant, the dear Major, sublimely benign, Pray Labour for Wellington, Wait for your Line. There is want in our City, there'a fear through our plains. Wo are bleeding to death for this Wellington’s gains, But this is too much. By the Lord we can fight, So roll up your shirt-sleeves, and at it to-night. Yes, shoulder to shoulder, to-night in the Hall, The Merchant, the Trader, the Labourer, all, Stand firm, men, and give of dissent not a sign, And rally round Vogel and VOTE FOR THE LINE.
