FOOTBALL.

SOUTH CANTERBURY F. TEMUKA, The first match this season between the ; First Fifteens of the South Canterbury and Temnka Football Clubs came off last Saturday in the Temuka Park, and ended in a hard-earned win for Timaru by 1 try to nil. Both teams were very evenly matched, and it seemed by the play during the first spell that the game would result in a draw, slightly in the favor of Temuka, as the ball was kept more frequently near the Timaru quarters, and also as the latter were forced down several times more than the former. The play during the second spell was very even, the hall, almost the whole time, being confined to the centre of the ground, where a series of scrimmages took place. The try at goal was entrusted to King, who failed to increase the score. The game was carried on in a most friendly spirit, and every satisfaction was given by the umpires, Messrs—Hawkes and Gordon Wood. CANTERBURY V. WELLINGTON. This made the ball slippery, and one could not distinguish the players across the ground. The play was excellent, both teams exerting themselves to the utmost. The game resulted in a win for Christchurch by six points to nil. Each province has now won two games,
