A TERRIBLE MISTAKE.

Some wonderful stories going the rounds about the re-animation of dead dogs have brought to mind the story of what was said to have taken place in America some few years ago, The South American narrative was to the effect that an eminent doctor obtained leave to experiment in revitalisation upon the bodies of a couple of criminals. These were guillotined, and the moment the heads fell into the baskets, heads and trunks were snatched up and carried into a prepared room. The heads were refitted on at once, A few stitches and strong plasters held the recently severed parts together, and then commenced the pumping process, hy which lungs and hearts, which had scarcely ceased to beat, were made to do their work again. In a few hours life came hack, and within a week the men were back at their homes, none the worse, save a stiffness in the neck, from their terrible ordeal. But in tb» hurry of the moment, when the heads were fixed to the bodies, by some mischance the two had got mixed, and it was found afterwards that the wrong heads had been put on ! There they had to remain. The men’s wives were sorely puzzled. It was not the voice of Jacob and the arms of Esau, but even worse than that. It was the body other own husband and the head of another. How the business ended we know not.—Horae Paper.
