RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Geraldine—Mondat, July. 13,1885. (Before H. C. S. B;«ddeley, Esq., R.M.) BREACHES OF TOWN BY-LAWS. For allowing cattle to wand«r in the streets within the town district, the following peraona were 6ned :—Geo. Helena, three head of cattle (first offence), os per head and costs 7s; Thos. Ward, two horses (first offence), 5s per head and costs 7s; R. Morrison, one cow (second offence), 10s and costs 7a ; R. H. Postlethwaite, one cow (first offence), 5s and costs 7s; Geo. Fox, one horse (second offence), 10s and costs 7s. J. P. Kallaugher was charged with allowing two cows to wander on Peel street on 16th June.

The defendant denied the charge, and endeavored to prove that the cattle were not taken by the ranger from Peel street. After hearing the evidence of defendant, who also had a witness, and the Town Board Ranger, His Worship held that though defendant might have proved that the cattle were not taken from a particular street—and no particular street need have been mentioned in the information—he had tailed to disprove the charge of trespass. The fine would be 10* per head and costs (third offence). CIVIL CASES. R. Morrison v. John Wattere—Claim £3 4s lOd, balance of account.—Judgment for amount chimed by default. J. Mundell and Co. v. W. F. Hargreaves —Claim £3 15» lid, for buggy hire, etc. — Judgment by default for amount claimed, with immediate execution.

Dr Foster v. Joseph Mackiiy- Claim £8 18s 6d, for legal advice and attendance in connection with the sharge of embezzlement against defendant, heard at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Geraldine, soma time ago.

Defendant failed to appear at the Court in Dunedin to have his evidence taken, and judgment wan given for plaintiff for amount claimed, with immediate execution.

The evidence of two witnesses (R. Taylor and Chas. Hammond) was taken to be forwarded at Wanganui. This being all the business the Court adjourned.
