ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET,

Mr E. G. Stavely (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports on Ashburton live stock market, under date 7tb July, 1885 : Sheep—Considering the inclement weather recently experienced, the number to hand was larger than would have been expected. There was more than an average attendance, and a good demand throughout, especially for hoggets, which made 9a 3d, 9s 9d and 10s for good lines, and 5s lOd for medium sorts ; mixed ages crossbred] ewes brought 11s Id ; aged merino ewes, in lamb, 4s 3d. There were very few fat sheep penned. A few merino wethers brought 7s and 7s Id. Cattle—Not many yarded, and prices are without alteration, All forward sold at our quotations. Fat bullocks to £7 12s 6d ; forward stores to £5 7s 6d ;

fat cows, £5 10s ; springing heifers, £3 10s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, July 7. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports of the local markets as follows : There is a purely speculative demand for shipping wheat at 4s Id. Mailing barley is quiet at 4s to 4s fid. New Zealand feed oats are in fair demand at 2s lid to 3s ; milling descriptions are in moderate enquiry at 3s Id, and New Zealand oats, under bond, are quoted at 2s 2d to 2s 3d.

Thirteen thousand nine hundred bales of wool were offered for sale on Saturday and to day. The tone of the market is firm.
