CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE,
The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 3rd inst. :
The business .done in the grain market during the past week has been of a general character. Prime milling wheat (Hunter’s and pear!) meet with ready sale, but Tuscan—which is coining forward rather out. of condition—and second quality lii.es are hard to quit. Chicken wheat (whole) has a good enquiry for shipment. Oats are firm at quotations, the better lines of blight heavy short having the call among buyers. Barley continues quiet except at reduced prices for shipment. There is an opening for cheap feed lines for local requirements. Beans and peas are dull with little business transpiring. Ryegrass has a good demand for clean farmers’ parcels but the cocksfoot market is glutted with discolored seed ; bright heavy lines have a fair sale. A very quiet market exists for potatoes, growers not caring about unpitting at present rates, while Sydney advices are anything but reassuring to buyers. Australian advices for dairy produce point to a steady demand for prime slightly salted tub butter, and a fair demand exists for small loaf-shaped chesse of known manufacture. Quotations are as follow Wheat—Prime milling (Hunter’s and pearl), 2s 9d to 2s lOd ; Tuscan, 2s 8d to 2a 9d; second quality, 2s 2d to 2s 6d. chick wheat (whole), la 'd to 2s, f.o.b. In the store sheep market a line of crossbred ewes in Jamb were sold at 5s 3d. A large entry of pigs sold fairly well. Baconera from 42s 6d to 90s, porkers 20s to 365, stores, 11s to 17s 6d.
