COUNTY HOADS. On the motion of Mr Maslin, seconded by Mr Dunlop, it was resolved —“ That the Hon. W. Kolleaton be written to asking him to use his endeavors to get the Hon. Mr Stoat’s Amended Counties Act passed through Parliament, with the clauses referring to the rating for maintenance of County roads through Town Districts, etc.” banger’s report.

This report was read. It showed that eight cows and four horses had been impounded during the month. A long discussion then took place as to what steps should be taken with regard to the owners. A resolution was passed at the last Board meeting that the names of the: owners of stock impounded should be brought before the members of the Board who would decide who were to be summoned. Now that the names were before the Board, the members again found themselves in a dilemma. There was nothing to guide them in arriviug at a decision as to who were to be proceeded against. To bring the discussion to a conclusion the following was proposed by Mr Huffey and seconded pro forma by Mr Maslin—“ That all owners, with the exception of Mr Morrison and Mr Postiethwaits, reported by the ranger as having had stock running at large bo proceeded against.” The above two owners were excepted because of their having paddocks, and therefore their stock were not running at large through wilful negligence. As an amendment Mr Taylor proposed —“ That all the owners reported by the Bangor be summoned.” Mr Maslin seconded this. The amendment was then put to the meeting, the mover and seconder only voting for it. On the motion being put the mover and Mr Mundell held up their hands in favor of it.

•The Chairman then gave his casting .' vote in favor of the amendment. ovbribbr’s report. This report was read as follows : “ With reference to the work, etc., . which has been done during the past memtb, I have the honor to report for your information that there are no contracts on band at the present time except ■ the one for lighting the lamps, and I may , here state that the lamps have caused the contractors considerable trouble and ex- ■ pense on account of the lamp tops not being waterproof, This has led to a number of lamp glasses being broken, and {tutting out the lamps at times. The amps, however, have been altered and appear to be much batter. —The surfacemen have been working as under: Mr Prude on Talbot street and the lower township ; Mr Harding has been working with him part of the month and in the upper part of the town the remainder of the month.—The ashphalters have been working in finishing Messrs Dunlop’s Maslin’s, Gibson's, Morrison’s, Taylor's and Macdonalds, footpaths, and also have laid the bottom coat at the Road Board office, and Mr A. Sherratt’s, also the kerbing in front of the Town Board office and Mr Tripp’s section, besides several days at other work.—With reference to making the gullies passable along Wilson street, between High street and the Cemetery road. I have, in conjunction with the Works Committee inspected these works, and do recommend that the gullies be made passable for horsemen only, therefore the road will only be Bft wide bn the top, with a protection on each side, with posts, rails and wire. The first gully from High street will require a culvert 3ft in diameter, and about 20ft long, with filling in over the top, The second gully requires an 18iu. pipe with filling in, but no protection is required. The third gully requires a light timber bridge, and filling in on each side of the same.—The scrub, etc., requires cutting down betwen the above-mentioned places the .same width as the roadway. The total cost will not exceed £—. —Since the last meeting I have received the following sums i- —Mr Quinn, £llos ;Mr Freeman, for license for L0.6.T. Hall, 10s 6d ; Mr Coltman for 1.0.0. F, Hall, £1 .Is ; Mr D. Mcllraith, £45 ; Mrs , Farrell, £45, making a total of £93 Is 6d. The game has been placed to the Board’s credit in the; Bank.—Several articles are /required to complete the furnishing of the /^Office: such as door mats, one small 'table, and coyer for table.—l have made a rough estimate of the cost of the aahphalt as oenr as lean, and the outcome is 2a per square yard as near as possible. If the Board sb desire, the accounts could be furnished for the finished portions for one-half the cost of same as soon as the . account is sent in for tar. The whole ‘thing could then be adjusted at once.— Should the Board decide to make the gullies passable in Wilson street, more , cement will be required, say 10 casks.— f ' :r: "Bm,'etc., . 1:. -“0. E. Sherratt, . ‘‘Overseer to the Board.” 1 li was decided to adopt the Overseer’s report on Wilson Street and to call - for tenders. It was 'also resolved fo obtain the heceisary articles of furniture for the' 'office, i H was decided to grant the contractors / for lighting the lamps the sum of 6s 4d, . being the value of the lamp glasses i broken:through the defect in the lamps. y.nv ■/•». lamps; The Tfoiks Committee suggested that three more-new-lamps should be placed on the Main Street ; one at the corner . . 6f the sheep yards, at the junction of Pine rand Talbot streets; one opposite tile Oddfellows’ Hal' ; and one near the old; brewery, opposite Berry’s Road. suggestion of the Works Committee was adopted, and it was resolved that the lamps bo put up'. ; :rascEixANEbos. . , It-was resolved to close up .the gateway ; in the fence between the Town and Road •<-. Mr Maslin gave notice that be would more at next meeting of the Board—-

“ That tbe resolution passed at last meet, ing of the Board, referring to the impounding of stock, be rescinded, and that in future the doard adhere to the By-laws in regard to impounding.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £75 5s 9d were passed for payment, and the Board then resolved itself into a Board of Health. LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH. The Inspector of Nuisances’ report was read as follows : " With regard to the sanitary state of (lie district I am sorry that 1 cannot report so favorably as in my last report. The back premises of several persons residing on Talbot street between Wilson and Cox street, and more particularly on the bank of the Waihi River are becoming as great a nuisance as they were two or three months ago, and immediate steps will have to be taken. —The drain cut by the Board is now made a receptacle for dunnage which was not anticipated at first, and something will have to be done to abate the nuisance. The tenant of the Educational reserve on the west side of Talbot street has drawn my attention to the drainage into his section, and iustly too. Something must be done to atop it. I am, etc., “0. E. Shbrratt, “ Inspector of Nuisances.”

Resolved—“ That the Inspector give notice to those parties who have nuisances on their premises to abate the same, and if not done within a reasonable time proceedings be taken.” Mr Maslin said a special meeting should be called to consider a system of drainage, and that a rate should be levied on occupiers of properties most benefited to defray cost or part cost of drainage. If they decided to carry out a scheme of drainage, something should be done which would be of a permanent ch wacter. Mr Mundell did not think it was time yet to consider the drainage question. If the Inspector saw that all premises were kept clean, the drainage as at present would suffice.

After some further discussion, on the motion of Mr Mundell it was resolved that a Committee consisting off the whole Board inspect the upper township and consider the question of draining it. This being all the business the Board adjourned to the first Tuesday in August.
