It is announced Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to accept the resignation of Mr Gladstone and his colleagues, and that Lord Salisbury, who is at prpsent at Balmoral, has been summoned to undertake the formation of a new Ministry.
June 13. Tenders are invited on behalf of the Government of Western Australia for a loan of £500,000, at 4 per cent. The minimum price has been fixed at £97 10s. Tenders will be opened on the 19th instant.
Th~e Sanitary Conference has adjourned until November next. Obiiuary—The Rev. Edwin Paxton Hood, minister of the Independent denomination, andauthorof a large number of works, aged 65 years. The report that Kassala had fallen iulo the hands of the rebela is incorrect.
• It is expected that the Redistribution of Seats Bill will be passed through the House of Commons on Monday, owing to the Ministerial crisie. The Russian squadron intended for despatch to the Pacific has received orders to remaiu in the Baltic from the same cause, anil parleying on the Afghan question has been suspended. It has been resolved to liquidate the New Zealand Grain Agency Company. The harvest outlook is improving. It is understood in political circles that the Marquis of Salisbury has been successful in forming a new C»binent, but the names of his colleagues have pot as yet been made public.
June 15. The Grunt Steam Navigation Co.’s steamer Garonne arrived at Plymouth to-day from Australia. In connection with the difficulty between Germany and the Sultan of Zanzibar regarding the establishment of a protectorate over the territory in the vicinity of that town, the Uerman Government disclaim the statement that they wore sending an expedition there to enforce their rights. June 16.
The Marquis of Salisbury has returned to town from Balmoral, and is still actively engaged in the formation of a Ministry. Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Connaught arrived here to-day from India. Paris, June 13. The Commission on the International control of the Bueis Canal, which has been sitting here for two months past, has concluded its labors. The main question of the control of the canal still remains unsettled, however, and the matter has been referred to the European Powers. June 14. The Grand Prix de Paris was run to-day, and resulted as follows :—Paradox, 1; Beluisant, 2 ; Present Times, 3. Constantinople, June IS. The inhabitants of Crete have agreed, in consequence of the action of the European Powers, to accept Savas Pasha as Governor of the island, and the rebellion which appeared imminent has been thus averted. Application was made yesterday for a Dew trial in the Malpas divorce case, but the Court refused to grant the application. June 16. Sailed—Union Company's s.s, Te Anau for the bluff this afternoon. The men charged with the robbery at Simpson's road branch of the National Bank of Australasia were brought before the Magistrate to-day and remanded.
