TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
-The monthly meeting of the above Committee was held last Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs Hayhurst (Chairman), Brown, Bohon, Blytli, Gray, and Miles. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and considered. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence outwardß and inwards was read and considered. Inwards as follows: From the Board of Education stating that they had appointed a Committee who would visit the various Bchoois in the district and report on the grants applied for by School Committees for small repairs, etc. from the same, forwarding the following resolutions :—" That for the future the present unsatisfactory method of granting small sums to School Committees for repairs, etc., be discontinued, and that all applications of the kind stand referred in to the Board's Inspector."' "That the Inspector be directed to'furnish the Board a quarterly report on the state and requirements of all schools in the district, and upon applications for grants received during the quarter; said reports to be brought up for consideration at meetings held in April, July } October, and January ? with a view to obtaining the sanction of the Board for such'works as are not properly chargeable on the funds of the Committees." nished wiui a copy of this regulation, and informed th \t they must themselves arrange for any matters requiring attention between the dates of the quarterly report above mentioned ; the question of a refund or otherwise to be decided at the discretion of the Board" HEAD MASTER'S REPORT.
The Head Master's report for the month of May was read as follows : No. on Roll: Boys, 198.25 ; girls, 152.25; total, 350.5, Strict average attendance : Boys, 137 ; girls, 99 ; total, 236. Workiog average : Boys, 138.7 ; girls, 99.7 ; total, 238.4. Highest attendance, 264. Owing to the prevalence of sickness in the district, the advisability of closing the school for a time had been suggested to him by several parents to whom he had written regarding non-attendance of their children. He did not think this extreme step necessary especially as the time was at hand for the midwinter vacation : i.e., the week during which the pupil teachers undergo theirexamination and thesucceeding week. The examination begins next Tuesday, the 23rd inst. A list of school requisites was attached, and some necessary repairs were drawn attention to. He enclosed a cheque for £3 6s, being amount of stationery fees collected for the present quarter. HOLIDATS. It was proposed by Mr Brown, seconded by Mr Bolton, and carried—" That the school be closed for the midwinter vacation on Friday next, 19th instant, for two weeks." SHINGLE. The Board having granted a small sum for shingle it was decided that the same be procured during the holidays, the Chairman and Mr Gray being appointed to 836 to it. SCHOOL REQUISITES. It waß decided to procure the school requisites applied for by the head master and carry out the repairs, etc., he suggested. VISITORS. Messrs Lee and Bolton were appointed Visitors for the month. ACCOUNTS. An account to the amount of £1 5s was passed for payment, and the meeting terminated,
