DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS.
The following is the report for tin week ending Thursday Inst Wiieat, -Parcels of best quality milling velvet and Tuscan are in fair demand, but inferior samples, largo consignments of which are how coming forward, are altogether neglected. Prime velvet and Tuscan command 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; do nd straw, 2s lid to 3s Id ; medium, 2s 9d to 2s 10 I ; inferior and fowl feed, la lOd to 2s 6d per bushel. Oats. —The market is rather inactive, there being comparatively little outside demand. Large quantities of superior quality are coming to hand daily, and are being stored in expectation of a rise of values. Discolored samples are in full supply, but though otherwise iu good condition, meet with little attention. Quotations; Best milling, Is B|d ; short bright feed, Is 8d ; medium, Is 6|d to Is Barley,—This is in heavy stock, and as malsters are fairly well supplied for the season, confining their purchases to firstclass bright samples only, anything fhort of that description is hard to place. Quotations : Prime samples, 3s 3d ; medium, nominal, 2a 9d to 3s; milling, 2s 6d to 2s 9d ; feed, 2s to 2s 3d. Chaff—There is a fair demand for good quality well cut at £3 per ton. Potatoes. —Supplies have been coming forward more freely, and as the demand is limited to local requirements prices are somewhat easier. Prime Derwents £3 10s.
Turnips.—2os per tou for best Swedes,
Carrots.—£2 per lon. Butter. —lnquiries for prime quality at Bid per lb, but medium and inferior is almost unsaleable. Fresh is also wanted, but must be prime. Eggs.—2s per dozen and still scarce.
Sheepskins,—Country dry crossbreds, Is 3d to 4s; dry merinos Is Id to 3s 9d ; pells Id to 3d ; butchers’ green skins (crossbred), 2s lOd to 3s 9d ; do merinos 2s 3d to 3s lid.
Hides continue in active demand, all lots coming forward being readily taken up by local buyers at late rates, viz.,— for heavy (in good condition and free from cuts), 4d to 4£d ; medium 3d to 3|d ; cut and slippy, 2d to 2£d, Tallow.—The market continues extremely dull at nominal quotations. For inferior and mixed, 13s to 18s; medium 19s to 21s ; good to prime, 23s to 245; rough fat, 12s to 14s 6d.
ENGLISH MARKETS,
Lonpon, June 9
At to-day’s wool sales 12,600 bales were catalogued. Prices are somewhat irregular. Crossbred exhibits p firm tendency, while merino wool rules -Jd to Id below last sales’ prices.
The following cablegram has just been received by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, dated London, June 10th ; —Wool Sales -There is much irregularity in the biddings. Home demand is good, but the Continental demand is poor. Greasy market easier, and crossbred market firmer ; superior lambs’ wool also firmer. The total withdrawn's to date amount to 7000 bales. The total quantity catalogued to date is 45,000 bales.
Football. —Those members of the Temuka Football Club selected to play m the match against Timaru to-day, are reminded that an express leaves the Wallingford Hotel at 10 o’clock sharp.
The Salutation Hotel, Dunedin, was destroyed by fire on Thursday evening. It is not known how the fire originated. Pearson, the landlord, was the only one in the house. In attempting to save his cash box, which was upstairs, he was severely burned about the hands and face.

The Otago Laud Board has resolved to recommend Government co allow deferred payment selectors to capitalise after one year’s residence, instead of three years, as at present. The late case between the Waimea Plains Railway Company and the ratepayers for the recovery of rates was before the Supreme Court, Dunedin, on appeal on Thursday, and argued at great length, judgment being reserved.
