GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The usual monthly meeting of this Committee was held on Wednesday evening. Present—Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), R. S. Cook, W. R. Lawson, and A. Sherratt. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. The only correspondence was a memo, from the Education Board advising the payment of £ll 14s 8d to the credit of the Committee,' for incidentals (or the months of April, May, and June. SUPPLY OF FIRING. The action of the sub-Committee in accepting the tender of Mr John Dean for a supply of firewood at 22s per cord and Newcastle coal at 44s was approved. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The Head Master’s report for the past month was read as follows ; “ I have the honor to report the average attendance at school for the past four weeks to be 171.—The pump needs slight repairs, chiefly a new leather, and one or more bolts, the old ones being worn out.—On Saturday next I have some business to do in Christchurch, and I should feel obliged if the Committee would allow me to come down by the express on Monday. By so doing I shall be able fo take school in the afternoon of Monday, and I shall make arrangements so that the school shall be kept open.—l am, etc., “ Thob. Hughes.” It was resolved that the Visiting Committee should attend to the repairs to the pump, and it was also resolved that the leave asked for by Mr Hughes should be granted. visitors’ report, Mr Cook, on behalf of the Visiting Committee, reported that on the day they visited the school—lsth May—there was an attendance of 181, and the school was in satisfactory working order. Some spouting on the master’s bouse required repairing. Another class room was needed, as teaching a class on the verandah was dangerous to the health of the children during the winter time. The Visitors for the ensuing month were authorised to report to next meeting on the state of the spouting of the master’s house. As there was little chance of getting a grant for the purpose of patting up another class room, the matter was dropped after a short discussion. Messrs Lawson and Sherratt were appointed Visitors for the month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—John Dean, for coal and firewood £6 Is, Secretary 1.0.0. F., for replacing pane of glass, broken in the hall on the night of the distribution of prizes, 6s fid ; total, £6 7s fid.
After the Chairman bad been authorised to write to the Board of Education for six copies of the Education Ordinance for the use of the members of the Committee the meeting adjourned.
