London, May 15. In the House of Commons to-day the Marquis of Hartington, Secretary of •State for War, stated in reply to a

question that Her Government did not regard it either convenient or satisfactory for the Australian contingent to visit England. Lord Howard Vincent and others offered to defray the expenses of eighty of the men. May 16. It is reported that Italy will occupy Souakim. Souakim, May 14, Lieutenants Airey, Wrench, and Sparrow, of the New South Wales contingent, have volunteered to remain behind and act as mounted scouts after the departure of the remainder of the contingent for Australia. LieutenantColonel Richardson is unwell, and has gone aboard the Ganges, hospital ship. The greater portion of the troops, under the command of Major-General Graham, leave at once for England, the work of embarkation commencing to-flay. The horses belonging to the New South Wales Artillery will be presented to the Royal Horse Artillery. Sydney, May 16.The nine-pounder battery with which ther Colonial Artillery were armed by the Home Government on their arrival at Souakim, has been presented to tlie New South Wales contingent by the War Office. The contingent embark for Sydney either by the Union Steamship Company's Arab or the Peninsular and Oriental Company's Deccan on Saturday or Sunday. None of the men will visit England. It is understood that the Hon. Mr Dalley haß declined tu« honors offered him in recognition of his action in offering the services of the New South Wales contingent to England.
