MOUNT FEEL ROAD BOARD.
The meeting of the Board was held in the Roard Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 15th instant. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Aciand. Messrs C. G. Tripp, and R. Mackay. ELECTION Or CHAIRMAN. This being tht first meeting since tha election of the new members the Clerk took the chair.—Proposed by Mr Mackay, seconded by Mr Tripp, and carried—- " That the Hon. J. Barton A. Aciand be elected Chairman for the current year." —Mr Aciand then took his seat, and thanked Ihe Board for this renewed expression of confidence in him as their ChairmaD. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were then read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were read and considered: — From Mr G. S. Hamilton, calling the Board's attention to certaiu necessary repairs to the Clayton road.—The OverBeer was directed to attend to the matter. From Mr W. E. Barker, requesting that the footbridge over the Scotsburn Creek be repaired.—Resolved :—" That tenders be called for building a new bridge." From Messrs Morris and Gall, offering to supply the Board with horse feed for twelve months, in quantities as required. —Resolved :—" That tenders be called for a supply of horße feed." From Messrs White and SmithsoD, in reference to the transfer of roads, stating
that th# conreyance had been duly exe cuted.
MISCELLANEOUS. The Overseer was instructed to attend the following things :—(1) To arrange for removing the cottage from the reserve at the middle fence, Raincliff, to the Board's premises near Fairlie Creek ; (2) To ascertain from farmers what quantity of poisoned grain they wonld be likely to require for the destruction of small birds ; (S) To procure another horse and cart for the use of the Board ; (4) To attend to the fence round Reserve 1859, at Sherwood Downs ; (5) That he be empowered to put on men in the neighborhood, out of employment, at breaking stones at n stated price per yard; (6) To call for tenders for making a cutting up the terrace on the west side of the creek at the end of the cross road in Peel Foreßt ; (7) To, call for tenders for carting stones ; (8) To forward a copy of the Rabbit Inspector's letter of the 20th April to the Geraldine County Council for their consideratioD." , RATE. Resolved—" That a general rate of one farthing in the pound be levied over the district." ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £173 8s lid were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. A meeting of the ratepayers of the district was held on the 15th May, at 2 p.m., for the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of closing certain roads in the district. The Hon. J. B. A. Acland, Chairman of the Board presided. The Chairman read the advertisement calliDg the meeting, and explained the object for which it is was called ; he also read the various clauses in the Public Works Act in reference to stopping roads. After the ratepayers present had inspected the plans and descriptions of the various roads proposed to be closed, it was proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr J. Pithie, and carried unanimously —"That-the several roads described in the pVanrbefore this meeting be stopped." The meeting then terminated.
