ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, April 25. The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Rimutaka, from Lyttelton (left March 15th), arrived at Plymouth last evening. Her cargo of meat is in excellent condition.

The rebels and Batouch Indians under Louis Itiel have been completely routed by the Canadian forces, after seven hours' fighting. '■■■'-■
pTr Murray-bmith, Agent-General for Victoria, writing to the Times, states that the omission of clause 31 from the Federation Enabling Bill, providing for the withdrawal of a colony, would postpone federation. The New South Wales Government are insisting on the retention of clause 31.
The town of Panama, which Ijas been virtually in a state of seige for some time past, has been occupied by the American Government, who have caused the arrest of the rebel leader. The French Government have protested against the action of America. Later.
The American Government have withdrawn from the occupation of Panama.
In the House of Commons to-day, Lord GJdmund Fitzmaurico, UnderSecretary for Foreign Affairs, stated that the Bosphore Egyptiennc difficulty was on the point of being settled on a basis satisfactory to England, France and Kgypt. Mr Gladstone subsequently moved a vote of credit of £11,000,000 for military preparations, of which notice had been previously giyen. Arrived, at Plymouth—P. and O. R.M.S. Shannon from Melbourne, March 12th. Sailed, from Plymouth, on Saturday evening—Shaw-Savill and Albion Company's s.s. lonic, for New Zealand. April 28.
The consecration ceremony of the Rev. Wm, Webber, recently appointed Bishop of Brisbane, will be performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, assisted by the Bishops of London and Victoria, Cairo, April 27.
In view of the rupture between France and Egypt in connection with the suppression o? the Bosphore Egyptienne, the French Ministers and Consular officials left this city to-day, ostensibly for the purpose of returning to Frauce, but for the present they remain at Alexandria, pending the conclusion of parleying which is proceeding in political circles. It is believed that a compromise will be effected, and diplomatic relations resumed. April 28.
In pursuance ot instructions from the War Office, preparations are being made for the withdrawal of the British forces from the Soudan.
s Ottawa, April 25. Intelligence is to hand from the scene of the rebellion in the Saskatchewan district, that the Canadian forces under General Middleton, whilst advancing against the position held by the insurgents under Louis Kiel, found a large party of Batouch Indians (allies of the halfbreeds) in ambush in a ravine. Severe fighting took place, with the result that several Indians were killed and fully fifty wounded. General Middleton afterwards surrounded the ravine in the hope of capturing the Batouches, but a foreo of rebels came to the relief of the latter, who were enabled to retire from their ambush.

Sydney, April 27. The Pacific mail steamship Zealandia sailed yesterday morning for Auckland and San Francisco with a crew of nonunion seamen and engineers. Hanlan, the oarsman, is a passenger by her for San Franeisco. Arrived—Waihor3, from Auckland, yesterday morning.
