AN UNFORTUNATE PLACE.
Amongst the Btoties whirh rr-ach us from America, is one of i-omo American travellers, who passed in their journey through a portion of tho Sierrns near Lone Pine. This place had been unfortunate in its clergyman. The fh>t had (he misfortune to shoot in fair fight the husband of one of his flick ; but ho married the widow. His services were dispensed with, as these people are moral and draw tho line somewhere. The second lost influence with his flock because his partner in a faro-bank was detected in cheating. He nlso had to go. The third, in addition to his clerical duties as a cure of souls, kept one of the stage coach stations. He had his enemies, and one came fooling round and got shot by the preacher. This was permissable, but.hegot shortjof provisions, and he fed stage coach passengers for Beveral days on his enemy. It was discovered by an army surgeon, who, unfortunately, was a passenger, and, while discussing a cutlet, detected the bone as human. The affair was burst up, and number three flad, but was captured and hanged on a pine tree. The office is now vacant.
