MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mount Peel Road Board was held in the Koad Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday the 17th inst. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs C. G. Tripp G. J. Dennistoun, and A. Hawdon. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered; — Prom the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, informing the Board that tlie reserves applied for by letter of 10th M*rcb, 1884, had been vested ia the B '3rd by proclamation in the Gaastte, No. 127, 1883.—The CltTk was directed to reply stating that there had been tome misapprehension, as the reserves mentioned are those apolied for by letter of 27 ; h October, 1883 ; the Board wmPd *ish to know what has been done in re-
ference to the application contained in their letter of sth January, 1885. From the Crown Lands Office, Christchurch, 'forwarding a statutory form of declaration to be signed by the Chairman of the Board under the Forest Trees Planting Act, in reference to the Board’s application for a grant of land on the Opihi River near Fairlle Creek. —The declaration was signed and attested as required, and ordered to be forwarded to the Commissioner cf Crown Lands.
From the General Crown Lands Office, Wellington, forwarding a copy of the Gazette containing an Order-in-Council vesting Reserve 1859 in the Mount Peel Road Board, in trust for plantation purposes. From the Registrar-General enclosing forms to be filled up showing the receipt* and expenditure of the Board for the year ended 31st March, 18S5. From Mr T. Blair, requesting an extension of time to complete his contract of breaking metal. —The request was granted. MISCELLANEOUS. The Clerk submitted the accounts of the Board for the pa°t year duly attested by the Provincial District Auditor as correct. The Clerk stated (hat no reply had been received from the Timaru Herald in reference to a mistake in the advertising re alteration of roads, but that the error had been rectified. Resolved—“That.in all future contracts the following clause be insetted in the general conditions of contracts:—(l)That contractors are not allowed to keep dogs in their camps ; (2) that they are .bound to pay for any damage to fences or any adjoining property, the amount of such damage to be valued by the Board’s Overseer, and deducted from any, money due to the contractor.” Resolved—“ That the election of members to fill the vacancies on the Board caused by the retiring members be held on Thursday,. the'7th May, the nominations of candidates to close on the Ist May, and that the annual meeting of ratepayers be held on Wednesday the 6tb May.” The meeting then terminated.
