New O-OLDITBLD. —The correspondent of the Otago Daily Times, who accompanied the the Hon. Mr Larnaoh, writes as follows: ■- On Wednesday the Minister of Mines visited some newly-discovered alluvial diggings mar Wanaka, which are in many respects unique, and which will probably be the centre of great activity next summer. One remarkable point in the height at which this gold has been found ; another is the quantity and richness of the washdirt. The auriferous country is situated very near the summit of Criffel Hill, nine or ten miles from Pembroke, at an elevation of nearly 3500 ft above the sea level. The land, like that on the Crown Terrace, looks promising for agricultural purposes. The soil is excellent, and from the surface to a depth of 9ft or so it gives excellent prospects. It was necessary to take horses from Pembroke to ascend Criffel Hill,, and after following a steep and slippery track for an hour or two the first party of diggers was sighted. There are at present on the field about 50 men, 25 of whom are on gold, and doing exceedingly well. The stuff is easily enough got at, but here and again the difficulty arises of an insufficient water supply One party has commenced the construction of a water-race, waich will be 15 miles in length and others have dammed the small creeks, so that each man is able to get half, an hour’s water supply per day. In the face of this disadvantage they are _ prospecting, and many of them are occupied in piling up tons of washdirt i» paddocks, to bo put through next summer. The snow will drive them from their claims in four or five weeks’ time ; but if the race can be completed in the spring there should be a very rich washing up. The race is to bring in five heads of water. A dish was washed out in Mr Larnach’s presence to give him an idea of the prospects, and it yielded nearly a couple of pennyweights of fine gold, quite unlike the coarser gold found at Oardrona. That the men are well satisfied with the outlook may be seen by the energy with which they have set themselves to make their quarters comfortable—all kinds of necessaries have been packed up the steep mountain track, and already one weatherboard house and several of galvanised iron are to be seen. The field was prospected by one party a couple of years ago, but it is only within the last few months that the men now upon it have arrived, and already a large quantity of gold has been taken out. Houle wav’s Ointment and Pills.—ln all outward complaints a desperate effort should be made to at once remove these annoying infirmities, and of establishing a cure. The remarkable remedies discovered by Professor Holloway will satisfactorily accomplish this desirable result, without any of those dangers or drawbacks which a'tend the old method of treating ulcerative inflammations, scrofulous affections, and scorbutic annoyances. The most timid invalids may use both the Ointment and Pills with the utmost safety with certain success, provided a moderate attention be bestowed on their accompanying “Directions,’’ both the preparations soothe, heal, and purify. The one assists the other materially in effecting cures and renewing strength by helping exhausted nature, just when she needs such succour. Holloway's Pills. Prevision. As autumn treads on winter, slender, delicate, and pale- faced youths become listless, languid and debilitated, unless an alterative, combined with some lonic, ba administered to quicken their enfeebled organ. This precise requirement is supplied in these noted Pills, which can and will accomplish all that is wanted, provided the printed instructions surrounding them most with scrupulous attention. Holloway’s Pill* are specially adapted to supply tbe medical wants of youth, because his medicine acts gently, though surely, ae a purifier, regulator, alterative, tonic, and mild aperient. A very few doses of these Pills will convince any discouraged invalid that bis cure lies in his own hands, and a little perseverance only is demanded for its completion.
