CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. . The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 17tb inst.:— The encouraging commercial cables of the past week, caused by the expectation of an Anglo-Russo war have had the effect of causing a rise in the local wheat 'market, yet the advance does not compare favourably with the rise in the home market. This is to be accounted for by the extra cost of shipping, and war risks. Prime milling lines are most looked after at an advance of about 3d. Good secondclass parcels met with ready sale at 2d advance. Chick wheat remains at last quotations. The advance is accompanied with a good deal of speculation as in the exit of pacific cables during the next few weeks prices are almost sure to recede again to to their last quotations, Oats have a f iir demand for bright short feed and seed Tartarian, but discolored and long feed are neglected at the moment. For prime malting barley a few enquiries still exist, while second qualities meet with little response. Rye grass is in fair demand for good, clean farmers’ lots, but cocksfoot is a shade weaker. Potatoes—Slight enquiries have been manifested for Derwents for immediate shipment, but it is premature to fix an opening rate.
